They were my mother's favorites!
Gosh, that took me back: my mother used to love Jeanette McDonald.
Judy: in their day they were good value.
Eryl: Nelson only had to sing 'Now Miss Sarah if you please...' and I'd be away - trilling with him.
Oh this brings back memories---All those Romberg "Classics"....Ahhhh Yes.....Jeanette and Nelson...!
I got to meet Jeanette back in 1952 whenm her dear husband did "Petrified Forest" at the summer theatre I worked at...She was lovely...And so was Mr. Raymond!
Remember the film "ROSALIE"? I loved that one too.....Ahhhhhh, those were the sweet romantic days, weren't they?
Naomi: did Jeanette marry Nelson's brother? Last night - in bed- I was telling MTL about it and we ended up singing Rose Marie and 'When I'm calling you ooooooooh!'
Fortunately only the owls were in earshot and it shut them up:)
Gene Raymond was not Nelson Eddy's brother...At least, I never heard that! But Jeanette McD. and Gene Raymond were married a vrry long time....And when he did "PETRIFEIED FOREST" back in 1952 she was there most all of that week and they seemed very devoted to one another....In fact I have a picture of them in his Dressing Room....it is a very sweet picture...
You are funny about you and yiur dear MTL Singing those songs....As corny as it all seems now, it was really beautiful...And Jeanette and Nelson were So Damn Good together.....A Perfect Screen Couple....!
Takes me back too. My mother used to play Noel Coward's songs on the piano and I knew them all. I must still have the book with all the words and music.
I'm finally back in the loop, dear and must now catch up on all of your life that I've missed in the last six week.
BTW, didn't these two used to star in RCMP movies?
Cheers.
Naomi: I don't know where I got the brother's idea from. I remember 'The
Petrified Forest' such a great title.
Z: then I shall expect you to have a duet or two with the Sage:)
Randall: unrestrained joy - you and Sam both back in the loop.
RCMP?
That clip was so astoundingly twee that I have to give the ultimate post-modern accolade of - way cool !
Che: that's me alright:)
The terrifying thing is that I do know all the words!
Kevin: I think that's really sweet:)
