TALKING ABOUT MY GENERATION!
Dame Shirley Bassey that is. Shirley and I started out in London about the same time and having just watched her wow the crowds at Glastonbury - and I mean wowed them - I feel proud to be of her generation. You had to be there - or at least watch it on TV!

"vol 2" ...
ps if you're wondering how I appeared here I kind of jumped in via friends of freinds blogs type thing
I didn't realize she was a Dame of the British Empire. Cheers for her - she has some voice.
thanks Rashbre. I'll have a look at Christina.
Hi Gledwood and welcome. I have since discovered that 'Past Imperfect' has been used many times. Still one can't copyright a title. I don't m;ind sharing it with Joanie. The rain has been much in evidence; which is why I have spent a lot of time on my puter.
Friends of friends sounds intriguing.
I saw her - fantastic! Wondered if she was paid in diamonds again this time. But her performance was marred by my nephew, who turned around at the end of the set and said, "is it finished now the fat lady's stopped singing?"
He's 4 and yet to learn...
Hi Ann! Lovely to see you. Shirley was fantastic - really belting it out!
Hi Sim! What a littler rascal! I gasped when she crouched right down and got up again without staggering. Believe me that is not easy at a certain age. And its great that she isn't laced up to heaven. She looks happy in her skin! And comfortable!
They don't make them like you two any more that's for sure -class acts!
Sorry you're missing Greece, wish I could magic you there - with me.
No summer this year, just monsoon.
It's sweet of you Anna. I wish you could too.
i love Shirley Bassey! mum's a bit of a fan -- she saw her performing in Sydney in the early 60s -- and dad used to like the Connery-era Bond films... so what with one thing and another i'm pretty familiar with her voice, which is amazing! i kind of forgot about her for a while, and then started listening to her stuff again as an adult when Moloko's 2001 remix of If You Go Away was getting played a bit on the radio... mostly, though, i wasn't that into the remixes -- i think the earlier stuff is miles better.
I remember her well.....the theme song from one of the Bond movies. I didn't know she had been made a Dame.
It's amazing; she can still sing, she still enjoys it, she still captures an audience - including that one. It was good to see.
Boo,
We miss all that here. But keeping up thanks to you all, Pat, Christina and Rashbre.
Amy: we saw Shirley perform in Manchester about 27 years ago. She's had tremendous highs and lows in her life, and it was quite thrilling to see her last night - a little plumper -but with enough verve and brio to electrify the audience. Just brilliant!
Judy: I expect the Queen feels - like I do - that we have grown up together. She's a great dame!
nea: that's a shame. Do you get any British TV? Mind you most of it is rubbish but, occasionally, there is a diamond in the dust.
Nick: she can still teach the young a thing or too. I was quite glad to be alone and could let the emotion run riot!
She looked great in them jewel encrusted wellies n all!
4d: just seen the wellies on the ipm news. I feel deprived!
You're never THAT old!
John: age is irrelevant - unless you're a cheese!
She has all that huge power and personality - I think she's terrific.
Diamonds are Forever and what was the other Bond song she did?
Sam: 'Gold Fing -ger.' It always makes me laugh when she sings 'Such a cold fing-ger!' what can she mean?
Mark my words: she's going to have a renaissance.
