The Joy of Singing

John Ritter's song and this video illustrate the joy of belonging to a choir. If you have half a voice and a gap in your life why not give it a go. I wish I had continued after the school and church choir.

I spent a lot of my time in churches as a wean. Who would have thought that lead could be so hard to remove?

The advantage of a choir is that you can sometimes hide your mediocre voice amongst all those beautiful ones.

I have a cousin who is choir master at Salford Cathedral and my mother had such a wonderful voice she sang solos in our church coir as I was growing up. Sadly I haven't inherited: I have less voice than gap and no gap at all currently.

My eldest sings with the Limerick County Youth Choir. She always comes home on a high after a rehearsal! :¬)

Eryl: how great to have music in the family. I hope you have some record of your mother's voice. My younger son recorded a song we made up together -he jamming on the guitar and me singing. Now my singing voice has completely gone at least I can remind myself I did have one.

Mapstew: It is a great feeling. I always remember the day after I had my first kiss singing Halleluijah in church the next day with real emotion;)

Beautiful singing! There was a time I loved to burst forth in song but years of smoking destroyed my vocal cords and now my range is gone. My children and grandchildren all enjoy music and sing and play instruments. Music is a part of our life's blood.

I agree with Granny, it's beautiful singing.

I was a member of our glee club in high-school, it was a wonderful experience.

I still sing, rather mediocre, but who cares? :-D We need more people bursting out into joy. You should hear my new Brazilian neighbours. They sing while they work, makes the neighbourhood sound happy.

Granny Annie: I don't expect years of smoking did my voice any favours and age was the coup de gras.
At least I can still enjoy other people's voices.
As an old lady was asked what she hoped to see in the next year or so replied,'I just hope to see.

GG: keep singing whilst you can. I find myself joining in with choirs, opera , boy bands - quite soundlessly, but with exactly the correct expression. Marvellous;)
