Saturday Lunch

The summer came this week-end and with leaves already on the lawn we decided to drive over Exmoor for lunch at the Crown in Exford.
Stopped to shoot the Exmoor ponies but trouble is approaching on the right - a rival herd.

There was a bit of facing up to each other ...

and then it all kicked off - literally. I ws worried the foals might get hurt but didn't see what I could do about it.

awwwwwww I love the pictures. . .
The ponies photos are lovely, except for the upset part, and the Town of Exford Beautiful and Lunch looks fabulous.

Parsnip: it was a lovely outing made all the better with rare sunshine.

You shot them? Lovely eating!

John.g. I'm pretty sure Pat wouldn't have shot them, nor would I, though horse meat is popular in Sweden. It's called hamburger meat and put in thin slices on sandwiches, my children love it, but I won't touch it.

Funny thing about the ham, eggs and chips, my man insists on them whenever we have to make a long road trip. Fortunately you can nearly always find them on the menu, even here.

John.g: har har! I wondered what Jimmy meant:)

Gosh, tribal ponies! Great photos, Pat, they are gorgeous animals. Are they properly wild, still, or do people interfere?

Ah, Pi, you're torturing me! Here we sit with 90% humidity at 97 degrees Fahrenheit, and I'm looking at those beloved beautiful English fields I miss so much ... not to mention the lovely cool-but-sunny summer temperatures.

The lunch looked yummy -- especially that tart.

Nea: the men are so literal! That'll teach me to chose my words more carefully but how interesting to hear Swedish customs. I believe horse meat has always been eaten in France. It seems Mr Nea has similar tastes to the men over here.

Eryl: I think they are probably counted from time to time but mostly run free. These ones gave every appearance of being totally wild and I wasn't tempted to get too close.

Edelweiss: sorry to torture you. We do have lots of grey, murky days and life isn't all sea bass and orange tart - that would get quite boring. I don't enjoy the winter so am trying to spin out the summer for as long as possible.

Are there such things as horse ASBOs?

Daphne: ha ha! These little blighters certainly warrant one.
