An Early Heart throb - Jake Thackray
There is a tea advert on TV at present which reminded me of the late Jake. a Yorkshire lad he was inspired by Brel (DON'T say it Daphne!} and there's a hint of Coward. I meant to embed La de dah as this one is 'offensive' but should you be interested just google Jake Thackray.

Oh, I love him he looks like I always imagined Mr Rochester to look.
Impeccable taste, Pat!
Sadly, this is the song that led to his being ostracised by the right-on producers in the BBC in the eighties and nineties. A great pity as so many of his songs have a depth of humanity about them only matched by the impeccable word play ("proof of God's existence a posteriori"!)
Eryl: I have to agree;)
Kevin: I wondered if you'd remember him. I didn't know what had happened to him and hadn't thought of him for years and could only remember he was Yorkshire and called Jake. Google is a wonderful tool.
Ah yes. He makes me laugh, a lot, even when he's being as un-PC as he possibly can. It's the deadpan delivery, I think.
At our Monday night folk/accoustic get together in the local pub we have a man who does a credible impersonation of Jake. In fact if you close your eyes you would think that you were actually listening to Jake Thackery!
He also plays ukelele and and does a good 'George Formby' as well.
Is it my computer - but I can't see your latest pictures, Pat? However, I do remember Jake Thackery and we listen to lots of Jacques Brel in our house as my son is a fan.
Queenie: un-PC? Jake? Shurely not:)
Keith: I'd eschew the George Formby - my childhood was full of him - but how great to have a pretend Jake on tap.
Sandy: your son has excellent taste.
I can't understand why you can't see the pictures. Maybe they are just being slow?
I am not familiar with him at all...! What a talented attractive man he was....And I can see the reason you said Brel and Coward....!
Oh it is soooo WONDERFUL that I can see all the Videos once again...!
Naomi: So glad he's got your seal of approval:)
