I'm ashamed to say, I don't know who this chap is. From the hat, it would appear he was a member of the RN, but other than that, I need enlightenment. Off to Google I go!
Cheers.
BTW, I'm catching up and loved the travel posts and photos as always.
Pat, how lovely! They're doing a splendid obit for him next week in the Stage. My dear old father was duty doctor on the set of Vampire Circus and got to know Lawrence quite well (he uttered the well-worn phrase "Good God! Doctors really ARE getting younger!") Adrienne Corri was also in that film, which is synchronicity considering your last post. This would've been around 1970/71, I suppose. I have my father's notes (nothing to report; carpenter injured with adze; dresser stung by bee; TW fainted. I think that must be Thorley Walters - another blast from the past) and the signed photos which I always begged for.
Randall: I hope you discovered he was an actor - under-rated IMO was Sexton Blake,Romeo, Tybalt,d'Artagnan, Novello and many many more. I not sure if he was RN or if that was an acting hat. Glad you liked the photos:)
Mei Del: he preferred the theatre - hated films except for Ben Hur as he thought William Wyler wasa wonderful director. He wasn't very tall but lovely. Thank you for the wishes.
Kevin: pleasure:)
Mrs P:how marvellous! With Adrienne too. Apparently he was blinded in one eye after a sword fight with an inexperienced actor- about 1968. I love that his father was a carpenter and when they fell on hard times his mother was a cleaner. He sure was a true gentleman. Great that you have such precious mementos of your father's. They are priceless. I can just see Thorley Walter's face.
Grand mother but still a girl at heart. Married to MTL(my true love)after a separation of 30 years. Had three careers: trained paediatric nurse, National photographic model and business woman. Now settled in SW and enjoying our five children and ten grandchildren and making the most of what time we have left.
In January 2013 I lost MTL.

I don't think so.
If I'm not mistaken it's a WWII German Officer's cap.
Must go and polish the Lee Enfield....
Andrre.M: honestly? Randall will be surprised. So obviously it was an acting titfer.
