Gale Force

If Janiveer’s calends be summerly gay,

‘Twill be winterly weather till the calends of May.

proverb

Aside

The forecast was right for once – we woke in the early hours with the wind roaring and the French window of our bedroom rattling away. Fortunately it held and the large tree that overlooks the garden is still standing- it’s about to be pruned – but the lawn is covered in magnolia buds. According to the radio many roads and bridges are closed, services withdrawn, there are flood warnings, winds of 80mph and snow hither and yon. Best stay at home today if possible.

It's pretty gusty here too, so I had little choice but to clean the guestroom and tackle the washing (ironing still piling up as usual) but I feel I'm entitled to a little smug satisfaction. The wind can do some good then.

Sablonneuse: well done but don't over do it.

I was expecting a fence to have fallen down - usually does but this time 'touch wood' (or don't need to touch wood, hammers etc), all seems well.

Rashbre: that's lucky. Our roof tiles are a problem.

I swear, the cold weather over there is freezing us here. It's La Nina, they say [the opposite of El Nino, the drought].

I'm taking my time catching up thanks to a slow...verrry slow...ISP...

GG: since I had Norton fitted I have to switch on in the morning and go and have breakfast to give it time to set up.

Naomi: you are the lucky one:) Things are improving but the winds are still very strong and it is very bad travelling weather so we stay put.
