The Hell it is.

Monument Valley -the furthest east on # 2son's US trip.  The petrol crisis in California makes the prices almost British.

It's a brilliant location - we were there last year. Great to wander through its spectacular landscape.

One of many reasons I am glad I don't live in Southern California anymore. But I miss living there every day. Does that make sense ? ? ?
Tucson has some of the constantly lowest gas prices in the nation. A big YeaHaw !

cheers, parsnip

Once again, Chef strikes the right note. Everyone agrees.

People think the desert is barren and dead but it's not. It's actually quite beautiful in an other-worldly way.

I didn't know there was a petrol crisis in California. Why (notwithstanding the lack of bars) 'hell'?

Rashbre: I have never been and find it difficult to get my head round the scale of it.

Chef: it does look rather arid but I'd love to see the different lighting at dusk and dawn.

John: he is quite droll.

Naomi: oh my poor boy - what bad luck.

Map: well he's bigger than you:)

Savannah: love the pic of the two little ones. Thank you.

Parsnip: the perfect place doesn't exist I guess.

UB: the colouring - for a start, is amazing.

Eryl: I don't think the chaps are happy to withstand no bars. And imagine breaking down as it is getting dark with no extra provs, and only the snakes and scorpions to keep you company.
'The Hell it is'is I believe, a quote from the mighty Clint. That came from my son.

...and it looks like it might be a long walk to get anywhere...?

Is IS quite beautiful there... and vast, very vast. We have areas in Canada equally as vast but not quite as desert-y.

We are paying $4.80 a gallon (US) for gas up here right now. And if you look at the imperial gallon, it costs us $5.77. Not sure why there is such a difference in the gallons but no matter what, having a small car with a 4 cylinder engine is easier on the pocket book these days.

Scarlet I can't wait for # 2 to get back and regale me with tales.

Ponita: no I don't think of Canada as being desert-y, but I know it is beautiful.
To my shame I don't know the price here but we don't use much with the one car. I walk everywhere locally unless it's pouring and I've just had my hair done.

Wow that looks amazing, but I'd rather view it from an air conditioned car. :D

Based on my M6 refill yesterday (£1.40), the UK cost of a US Gallon of fuel in USD$8.70.

A proper gallon would cost GBP£6.35 or USD$10.15.

It looks stunning, but I wouldn't want to get lost around there!

Petrol prices here have reached a new high since they increased the VAT from 19 to 21 percent. We pay 1.89 euros per liter, or in US prices per gallon: $7,14. And most of the price difference with petrol prices in other countries is simply due to taxes. :(

Marjoein: looks like we are the lucky ones - for a change.
