World Cup -UK versus USA

Clearly goalie Green's gloves were too big. Cheer up - it could be worse - we live to fight another day and well done the Yanks.
Actually we watched Emma Thompson's 'Sense and Sensibility' but we did flick over during the ads. Speaking of gloves I've fished out my old evening gloves with the intention of wearing them the next time I iron , to avoid another burnt wrist.

I avoid burning myself when ironing by not ironing:)

Great match. I feel so badly for poor old Robin Green. Too bad the team couldn't get a goal back for him.

i soooooo wanted to watch the match, but in-laws were here and well, to be honest, they were not interested at all (you know the type, "it's called soccer, it's NOT real football" i sigh a LOT) anyway, i'm looking forward to this month long event! xoxoxox

Oh,"evening gloves". When I first read your post I misread it as "oven gloves" and I thought "what a strange woman".

In my job [Legal Secretary] I have to speed-read because of the amount of paperwork involved and I tend to do it on blogpages as well.

One of these days I'm going to end up getting somebody a life sentence for having no lights on their bicycle!

Yes, so sorry about the Green gloves, but your gloves sound like a grand idea.

I tend to favour Grannie Annie's approach, and constantly walk around in crumpled shirts

I like the picture of your evening gloves but what are you wearing with them?

Grannie Annie: sounds like good sense but ironing brings out creative thinking in me and my brain needs the exercise.

Jack: he seems to be in the right frame of mind about it and hopefully he can redeem himself in the next match.

Savannah: my late father and my # 1 son have always lived and breathed football so it's impossible for me to totally ignore it. Usually I can manage an hour or so of watching fit young men running about without too much discomfort:)
I hope you can make up for it when they have gone.xoxox

Wendy: I am a bit strange I suppose. But you know what they say - it takes one to know one;)

Maggie: now are you really really sorry?

Kim: I know.

I'm joking - honestly.xox

Kevin: I'm toying with leotard and fishnets.

Pat, perhaps an exchange of gloves with Mr Green would prove beneficial for you both?

LOL, LOL......I LOVE LOVE LOVE, "SENSE & SENSIBILITY"...It's one of those films I could watch over and over and over....! I love the Humor in it..or should I say 'Humour'? (lol)

I'm afraid the World Cup just sort of passes me by. I heard that the US & THE UK were tied....So what happens now?? Isn't there a 'play-off' or an overtime something-or-other, till one of them wins?? I don't get it, I'm afraid.

As to ironing:I take the Granny Annie approach.

I've never been any good with gloves, I drop everything as I can never grip properly. So I feel for poor young Green. He made a rather good save later, and will no doubt learn from his mistake.

I watched most of the game, fell asleep during the very last part.
I hoped that the USA could have won... some fun news for us even for a few hours among all the bad that we have happening to us everyday.

I envisioned you in evening gloves, wearing a Black Beaded Gown ironing with a nice glass of wine maybe a drop of Cassis ?
Might as well have some fun !

cheers, parsnip

Blazing: shall you tell him?

Naomi: I expect they both stay in the contest and play other countries.
Watching S and S last night was like a breath of fresh air and I'm so grateful that, arguably our best historical writer, is so relevant today and so close to my heart.

Eryl: maybe I'll cut the fingers off and make them into mitts.
Green came out and faced the press so I think that bodes well for learning and moving on.

Parsnip: now now! A draw is good enough but I was pleased the Americans interviewed were gracious and not at all crowing over their success.
I like your vision of my ironing attire - especially the cassis.

My own take on the game tomorrow, dear.

Cheers.

Evening gloves when cooking reminds me of Fanny Craddock. Please tell me you're nothing like her.

It's the Aga burns up my arms that get me - I don't have one very often, but the marks last for months, don't they?

Pat said...

Randall: best of luck with it:)

Madame D: as far as I can remember, she was loud,cross-eyed and treated her husband with rude disdain so I sincerely hope not.

Z: I haven't had one of those for some time - mainly because MTL does most of the cooking now. This one will last for ages - I caught it on my jeans today and it bled.

I was torn over who to support. I always back the UK but I didn't know where to turn in a UK/US bout. Since the US won (a tie is a win for us) I'll go for them. Until they're out, then it's back to the UK.

Pat said...

The U.B.: no no no! A draw is a draw is a draw. We need the kudos and your undivided support. In return if we're out I'll be a cheer leader for US. Deal?

Saw the England/US game, an unlucky goal, I thought. I was up at 3.30 this morning to watch Australia v Germany.

Germany played very well and deserved their win, although I got rather cross when they started thinking they were Italian and diving all over the pitch.

How are you feeling now, Pat, after all those injections? Ooooh.

I'm trying to avoid the football games. I'm a bit peeved that only sports are important in Guyana.

So you'll only have burnt gloves now? *runs*

Hi Pat, we were rooting for England too. Unfortunate slip out of his hands, but they'll hang in there. England has a good team. :) They can more than handle Slovenia and Algeria.

Miss D: I must have seen a moment of that match; I remember thinking the knee sliding on the turf wasn't very Germanic.

GG: I'm fine now thank you - hoping the treatment has done the trick.

John.g: that's the plan - I hope it works.

Luna: it would be nice to go further. Nice we have some support;)
