By the Way

If you have children or are maybe still a child at heart, you may be interested in the email below from our French son. I remember they introduced us to Shrek some years ago and we enjoyed watching it with the children. Prince of Persia reminds me of 'The Princess Bride' - always a favourite in the family.

Just a quickie to let you know that we went to see « Prince of Persia » at the cinema with the kids on Sunday & it was brilliant.

It is an unusual film in that it appeals to boys & girls, young & old(er) … and is an old fashioned adventure movie, with some spectacular special effects, but which are part of the plot, rather than the ‘raison d’etre’ for the film. There is a good storyline (like Arabian Nights) and some romantic elements, some humour & a very pleasant looking leading actor & actress. There is a fair degree of action, but not a lot of violence (which we were worried about as the video game is only that) & it is made by Disney.

I think that Dad would really enjoy it & it is definitely worth seeing on the big screen.

The French family scored it 5/5.

“Super” … elder boy aged 15

“GĂ©nial” …younger boy aged 12

“When can we tape it on the TV” … small girl aged 7

Wow! I want to go and watch it NOW.
I remember what a rage the game was in the late 90s. It's playing at the IMAX here and I must NOT miss it :D

I didn't think I wanted to see "Avatar" but I saw it on the flight to LA - on a tiny screen! - and loved it. Now, a prize for any children who know where Persia is?

Daphne: Miss, Miss, Miss - I know! Ask me!

I'll tell G. Thank you.

Only you, Pat, could compel me to see a film with the words: 'some humour and a very pleasant looking leading actor and actress'! I have to say, though, the trailer does make it look rather gripping.

Randall: my comment disappeared again. I was hoping your three would like it.

Maggie: it's great when you can watch a film together that you both appreciate. Tonight we watched 'Sense and Sensibility.' and liked it even better than the first time.

Eryl: that's our French son being terribly English.

Oh, I am so grateful for your review. This film has gotten rather wretched reviews over here and I thought..."Well, I won't bother--even though I have to wait for the DVD like your 7 year old---But now....I look very much forward to it...I trust you more than the sour so called "professional" reviewers....Thanks, my dear.

Naomi: ooooh I hope you aren't disappointed.

The Princess Bride is the first film I can remember seeing in the cinema, with my grandma when I was about 4. Shall have to investigate Prince of Persia!

Have you seen the movie called Babies? I saw bits of it on Oprah. It was made by a Frenchman, and it's about 4 babies, their 1st year. No dialogue.

Miss D:they do sound similar.

GG: no but it sounds fascinating. I adore babies.
