A Bird's eye view

Nadal comes close but Federer wins hands down. I'm talking behinds and was at a loss to describe them without sounding vulgar. Madame D (side bar) gave me the clue in her delightful post. Pert is the perfect word for Roger's bottom.

Sunday afternoon's World Cup was less fun as I watched the German team totally outplay England and beat us 4 -1. Yes it should have been 4 - 2 when we had a legitimate goal disallowed but rules are rules and FIFA declare no goal technology. Karma I'm told for 1966.

Goalie James - in canary yellow, did his best, with little help from his backs. Maybe if Rooney had sung the National Anthem with as much conviction as Mick Jagger things might have been different.
As the game came to its inevitable conclusion I longed to ask;
What part of possession don't you understand?

The commenters called it an abject failure and the one who looks like a puppet from Thunderbirds called it four levels below abysmal.

The truth is the German team were the better side and deserved to win and congratulations to them.

Yes some bad ref decisions yesterday. First with Lampard's goal and then Tevez's offside in the next match. I know both these goals didn't make a difference to the outcome of the matches, but you never know. The morale of the players does get affected.
But you're right, Germany is the better team and it's just as well that they won - After all, they are meeting Argentina in the quarters. I doubt if the present England team would be able to get past that force, but I'm sure Germany can :-)

Yes, I rather like Federer as well -ALL of him. He comes over as a very pleasant person during interviews and I've never seen him lose his temper on court.

I haven't seen the tennis at all this year, and I missed the footy yesterday because I was working at the paintball site. One of the boys did bring a TV in but we didn't get a chance to plug it in!

Like Sablonneuse I like all of Federer, he has that little sparkle in his eye and, yes, he is very pert.

CC: Argentina versus Germany should be a match worth watching.

Sandy: he may be a bit of a peacock but who cares?

Eryl: you missed nothing.
Fortunately I can feast my eyes on 'whatever' the rest of the week.DV

I was so sad the U.S. lost on Saturday. I didn't think I cared but I got all wrapped up in it. Then I hung my hopes on England and you can see what happened there.

It's going to be a long Monday.

UB: I'm sorry about the American team. I thought they were nice boys.
This seems to have become my mantra but there's always Wimbledon:)

Of course, our weekend sucked, too, given our defeat at the hands of Ghana. Sadly, though I wanted to root for the Three Lions, the EMBLOS would have been really grumpy had I not supported her home squad. Sorry about that.

Cheers.

Randall: the EMBLOS was right. They are a young team who should go far.

Bummer that USA lost but for me at lest Japan is still in.
So glad France is out, after the the Ireland fiasco they shouldn't even be there.
Now I need to have someone explain Cricket to me. Rugby I get and like but Cricket can't wrap my mind around it.
cheers, parsnip

Parsnip: I haven't been paying attention. I'll look out for Japan.
I don't know the finer points of cricket but on a sunny day in pleasant company can quite enjoy it - except that it get quite rowdy now and used to be so sedate.

Pat ...
All I know is when I watch Masterpiece Theater on PBS, they show people sitting in lovely chairs on the grass near the field.
Watching men in white, wearing shin guards tap a pole while running back and forth.... there must be a logic behind this.
It sounds like great fun on a nice afternoon with some friends and a drink. :)
