Instow Continued

Aside

The last day was perfect we decided I should do the Tarka Trail from Bideford to Instow. We had a coffee in the Royal Hotel (MTL said it was like being in a time warp) and then I left MTL and struck out alone.

Cyclists can be a menace but today they behaved impeccably.

There were little bridges...

and a very big one with delectable views.

Conclusion tomorrow.
'Tarka the Otter ' is a famous book written by Henry Williamson
in the 1920's. He rescued an otter whose mother had been shot and the book is the story of the otter's 'Joyful Water life and death in the County of the Two Rivers.' Years ago MTL and I trailed round Georgeham where he lived and worked, as a sort of homage.

That book made me cry, as did 'A Ring of Bright Water', when I first saw the film!

What a BEAUTIFUL Trail that is Pat! I love that you are so adventurous...And all by yourself, too! The Hotel would be where I would stay...That is a very inviting room....!

BYW: In usually have not had the "image loading" problems withg blogger, but lately....OY! And it's not just me....I have posted 12 and 15 pictures many times in the past...
As to why some of these plants have sharp "lethal" parts to them, it IS for a reason. Protective covering from all sorts of predators, plus, in some cases, protection from the sun....Have you ever seen a "Golden Barrell" close up? I will have to show a pivture of one....Talk about protective covering...LOL! Thanks so much for your visit, my dear.

The photos make me want to step inside them.

Lovely view. I'm not familiar with the book myself but a trip in homage to where it took you thru the page is a great idea.

Rabbit rabbit!

Your pictures are absolutely lovely! Beautiful. We were in England about 12 years ago, for two weeks. I thought it was so wonderful. I could live there easily.

Love the trail. Good fun having these kind of 'on line rambles'. Mine are more often in the city. I shall have to take a walk in the green stuff.

...Oh yes, and 'Rabbits' back!

Pearl: I did it with Jane Austen and Florence Nightingale.

TLP: I wonder if you ventured west.

Rashbre: the green stuff is easier on the feet. At least that's what I thought until I did the last bit of the Coleridge Way.

You seem to spend an awful lot of time wandering aimlessly around the countryside.

I wish I could do that .......

You suppose there is any significance in this:

Potter
Otter

Harry Otter? Potter Otter?

I don't think I'm going to be able to come to England. Too many time zones....

Keith: the aim is to keep fit, keep sane and keep mobile. What's stopping you?

Hoss: that had never occurred to me. And both best sellers. I think both you and MTL are wise to eschew long haul flights. How many hours behind us are you? New York is five, California ten, but I don't know about Oregon. What about the flight to Hawaii?

For a moment I could have sworn that was a rear view of the Major in that first photograph - is it MTL? Good lord it's like Deja Vu ...

Daphne: no! So far he has remained incognito - I'm trying to persuade him.
