NEWS FLASH

Aside

Wonderful wonderful Eileen Atkins ( to the tune of Copenhagen). Have just watched last night's tape of 'Cranford'; Elizabeth Gaskell's tale of a fictional Knutsford. Pure unadulterated joy with perfect casting. Five hours in all - Sunday nights - 9pm BBC 1. All is not lost.

I can't really comment on this, as I haven't seen it. Mind you, a friend of mine was rushing home to see it; they think it's great.

As to why I don't have a blog, my excuse to myself is that I don't have time. I would feel that I had to post regularly on it, and I would spend far too long trying to decide what to post. However, it could also be that I'm scared that nobody would read me. I don't cope very well with rejection. Anyway, I prefer to clutter up other peoples' comment boxes when I feel the urge, and then slip away into the night.

Knutsford - as was, or as could have been.
Knutsford nowadays - a motorway service station.
I suspect there's something sublime in that, but it passes me by.

On the matter of Sunday evening TV, it all started to go pear-shaped after Prime Suspect ended... Fair to say our's isn't much of a TV household.

Shane... without the 'y' (sidebar)

lynx: I commented for months until I was finally persuaded - particularly by my elder son. I understand your reservations but once you're in - as it were - its up to you and you can please yourself and hopefully please others also. Feel free to drop in anytime.

Shane without the y. I hear what you say - we lived in Wilmslow for a time. Now look here young man I truly regret the y but I am incapable of fiddling with my side bar so bear with it (and thank your lucky stars you're there)until I get help. Very stupid of ;me:(

It was reviewed in my trade paper here saying it would be on last night on BBC America, and it wasn't!!! Damn!
I think I will go to Amazon in The UK and see if it is available. The review was ecstatic! I LOVE ALL those actresses....!

Naomi: I do hope you get to see it. I know you'd love it.

I must try and catch the repeat.
You're right there's not much by way of good drama about at the mo'. Although McGovern's "The Street" is a pretty good take on modern life.

The state of world TV was demonstrated by the fact that the Beeb for all her ill just won 6 emmys (emmies?) last night. Let's hope her standards are maintained despite the current round of cuts.

Don't you find it odd that Eileen Atkins keeps coming up?

Doc: odd but nice!

Anna: there are four more episodes. The Street looked like brilliant acting and writing but I just don't feel like anything too gritty at the moment. Cranford is far enough away from life, as it is today

Dammit. And I have to wait for the DVD...

Granny: a shame - but something to look forward to.

The Old Pretenders FC once went on a Knutsford Tour (2001 I think). We never actually got to Knutsford itself leaving us to believe it is indeed fictional....

(we also lost every game in the OP tradition)
