So we're talking late fifties here, I would think.
My mother didn't drive until she got married to Dad. He told her he wasn't going to take her everywhere she needed to go, as they'd moved from the city and public transportation to the suburbs where cars were a necessity.
She turned 78 yesterday and still drives herself around.
Something that intrigues me...my mother and aunties in photos around that time had a similar appearance - all dainty, slender, lady-like. They sat the same way, and crossed ankles when sitting on chairs, folded hands in lap. It was British Guiana then.
Grand mother but still a girl at heart. Married to MTL(my true love)after a separation of 30 years. Had three careers: trained paediatric nurse, National photographic model and business woman. Now settled in SW and enjoying our five children and ten grandchildren and making the most of what time we have left.
In January 2013 I lost MTL.

Cheers.
Randall: good for Randall's Mom. She's older than me- Yay! Somebody has to be.
You little speed demon, you....
Hoss: I'll have you know I have only once been done for speeding or was it going through a red light? Only once any way.

GG: Heaven forfend that I should be vulgar but it's what I call my tight- arsed look.
I think you were all just simply more elegant in those days than we are now.
Sam: we certainly would never sit with out knees apart.
