Hither and Yon

Aside

The next two weeks are going to be busy so my presence will be spasmodic. We are going to Instow (between Barnstaple and Bideford) you remember surely? Then the Hertfordshire family come for half term followed by the Sussex family for their half term.
I’ll try to put the comp answers up before I go – I don’t want to get lynched. Having got the house all spick and span to last for some time, a recalcitrant workman turned up today and did a bit of demolishing. Yesterday I had my hair colour highlighted for the first time for 25 years and MTL is treating me like a blonde.

OK! Time is up. Here are the answers:

1 Sophie Tucker

2 Jeremy Thorpe

3 Samuel Johnson

4 Scott Fitzgerald

5 Jane Austen

6 Oscar Wilde

7 Franklyn D Roosevelt

8 Queen Victoria

9 GB Shaw

10 Jean Paul Sartre

11 Robert Browning

12 Laurence Sterne.

By my reckoning Sam is the winner with Doctor Maroon second and Tan Lucy Pez third (all on side bar)
Catherine deserves a special mention as she was the only one to recognise Jean Paul Sarte. Jeremy Thorpe is worth a google when you read his quote for the second time. Please check results –you know what I’m like. Congrats and thanks to all who took part.

Keep the faith – I’ll be back soon.xoxoxoxox

I'm in third place. Wheeeee....But it's so funny, 'cause I got only 4 correct! We're a bit of a dim bunch.

We're heading towards The New Forest in a couple of weeks. I'll try to behave but keep an eye on the local news just in case....

Hey! I'm a scoundrel!! Love it

Soooooooooo, people, whaddaya think - Pat has a couple of weeks off, so she should post three instalments of the story the week she gets back, to make up for what we've missed, no? ;-))

Have a great time, Pat!!

Zinnia: I thought you were my friend.
A break is a break is a break is a break. Did Gertrude Stein say it twice or thrice? Y'see I can't think straight - I'm on the edge of burn-out. It's all too much. I feel distinctly Virginia (as in Woolf)

4d: it's not really local but have a great time and don't frighten the horses:)

Only Catherine recognized JPS? Really? That was the most famous quote on the list. Don't make your questions easier, Pat - make 'em harder! Faint heart never won fair-haired lady. The cliffhanger is killing me though. How long do we have to wait for the next episode?

PI said...

Daphne: in about a week if I can concentrate when house is full.

I got one of 12. Does this classify me as a genius?

I can't believe the ones I got wrong, Oscar Wilde and GBS (among others). These were the ones I would have guessed I'd know above the others. I kinda knew I'd got them wrong though. I couldn't decide between 6 and 10 for Wilde and that buggered me up with me GBS and JPS guesses. Ratfink.

Have a lovely time with the family, Pat. And in Instow!

How highlit did you go?

Dr Maroon said...

Hell is other people is SO Wildean and yey it was your little French friend what said it.
Thinking about it, it does sound misanthropically French. I haven't checked yet but I cannot believe I was beaten by a girl.

Oh I missed the competition!

And yes a new avatar is required showing off the blonde barnet.

Hope you survive all your visitors.

"I'm crap with quotes..."

Was that Ralph Waldo Emerson?

Never mind. Yes, how about a photo of the blonde bombshell?
