Inside every older person is a younger person -- wondering what the hell happened.

Inside me lives a skinny woman crying to get out. But I can usually shut
the bitch up with cookies.

The hardest years in life are those between ten and seventy.
Helen Hayes (at 73)

I refuse to think of them as chin hairs. I think of them as stray
eyebrows.

hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.
Erma Bombeck

Old age ain't no place for sissies.

Excellent Kim!

I'm just beginning to learn what Eleanor Roosevelt means by that and it's both scary and liberating.

Inside me there is definitely a fat person who keeps trying to insist I'm hungry. I have the upper hand at the moment but who knows for how long!

Eryl: it can be discouraging; my difficult time is after dinner and that's when I eat fresh fruit (as well as during the day.) Now it seems it is better not to eat fresh fruit and veg after 3pm:(

I LOVE these...especially Erma Bombeck's quote...LOL! Though Rosanne's is a close second, for me...! And Bette Davis certainly knew what she was talking about, didn't she?
On Third Thought, maybe that first "quote" is the most accurate...Pass The Cookies, PLEASE!

It's not fair! already I can relate to Janette Barber's quote, and a few others too! (.....And I'm not yet even 50!)

There's a great deal of truth in those sayings. My thin person would love to escape but she's well and truly chained in there. Just think, I could lose several stones easily if she managed to get out!

Avoid dead trees in high winds.

Me, hindsight, paah!

Pat said...

Naomi : I found them all pretty relevant.

theblonde: the trouble is blonde hairs glint in the sun. One of the reason Marilyn glowed on screen was the fact that she had a fine golden down - like a peach. In later years one should employ a whisker watch- ie employ someone with perfect eye sight to watch the little blighters and deal with them.

sablonneuse: nothing like a woman of substance:)

John: we have a ginormous tree overlooking us - I get all the leaves and in these very strong winds I'm constantly telling MTL I'm worried about it. He's not!

I was meant to be the horrible warning. I've found my calling!

I'm a horrible warning! Yes!!(!)

Oh dear, I've found the occasional upper lip whisker. But I've never even looked on my chin!

Absolutely

Pat said...

TLP: you'll have to fight it out with Z but I think you are both shining examples.

Z: Germaine Greer was talking on the phone to her sister and suddenly said
"Oooooh there's somenting on my chin," And her sister - in - Australia said
"That's a whisker!"

4d: I keep forgetting which one I am.

That last one is one of my mottoes.

Sam's back, dear. Thought you'd want to know.

Cheers.

Pat said...

Daphne: it's going to be mine from hence:)

Pat said...

Randall thanks! the one day I didn't check.

I like the horrible example one the best but the one that rings most chillingly true is the one about what happens to you at 35. I am 33 and the clock is ticking. Tick tick tick and so unto the grave...

I'm going to cheer myself up now with a thorough trawl of your archives to see if I can catch up on all things Pat. Kettle's just boiling too!

Missed you, sweetie-pie!

Pat said...

Sam:not as much as I've missed you. We've all been mooning around like lost souls

Suddenly I'm thinking that when I decided to come back to England I forgot to pack my inner thin person! ;)

Pat said...

f:lux: where were you? France? Yesterday MTL treated me to a lovely brown leather jacket so my inner thin person has to come out and stay out.

Ooh, I really like the Roseanne Barr one. . . althought it's a little small in my apartment for a ride-on vacuum.
Another favorite Roseanne line: I consider myself to be a pretty good judge of people, which is why I don't like none of them.

Pat said...

Hi Carli: we used to get Roseanne's early TV programmes and she made me laugh a lot. Back to bed now:)

Erma Bombeck was one of my favorite authors when I was a kid precisely because of gems like this one. What a treasure she was, and what a loss to humanity we suffered when she passed away.

I'm back from Michele's again. Hope you're not sick of me :)

Carmi: am I sick of a breath of fresh air?
