HAPPY EASTER TO EVERYBODY
Aside

We realised although there have been presents flying around we haven’t bought any Easter eggs this year and it occurs to me that that is no bad thing. The younger ones enjoy an egg hunt in the garden but the older ones who were here don’t appear to miss them and we actually talked about what Good Friday is all about.

I’m a little sad today because the family have left. However with the lovely weather we have had, it has been a glorious few days in every sense. MTL is happily listening to radio reminiscences of the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race. It is Boat Race Day today and we wouldn’t miss it for the world
Just to finish off the everlasting Birthday treat (scroll down to Birthday Treat) here are the last of the pix.

I liked the Now Show's spoof of havng the race run in disputed Iraq/Iran waters, it was a hoot, "and Cambridge is losing ground due to the Iranian boarding party's additional weight........"

Anna: shame we missed that - we would have relished it!

Pat I haven't been here in a loooong time. What in the world was I thinking? You have a wonderful Blog!

Hope you have a blessed Easter.

Michelle says hi.

Hi Sarch and thank you!

I have yet to buy the eggs to color as well. I have my work cut out for me today. I love the pictures! It sounds as though you had a great time and are having some wonderful weather. It has been surprisingly nippy here the last few days.

Happy Easter!

Love the photos.
We haven't bought any Easter Eggs this year either. People claim to be 'slimming' so I won't encourage them to eat chocolate - but we will eat cake.
Happy Easter.

I worked all through the Boat Race today and missed it. Shame. My father would disown me. When he was alive, there was a bottle of champagne in the fridge on Boat Race day, to be opened only if Oxford and not the Other Place won.

sablonneuse: you're in the right place for it. Didn't Marie Antoinette say 'Let them eat cake!'

Naomi: lovely to see you. I am so relieved that Firefox seems to have solved my problem. Until the next one that is! Will be over sometime this weekend.

Judy - you are always welcome!

moogie: we are enjoying a lovely few days weather wise. Easter can be horrid.

The whole egg hunt thing is new to me...it's not something we did as children. My husband colored eggs, had a hunt for his basket, the whole nine yards...so we are making our own traditions along with his. I took my kids to a hunt today in the city park, then we dyed eggs. Tomorrow I will lay out a trail of eggs that lead to their baskets (which I must put together tonight) and then we will have church and Easter dinner with friends tomorrow (Sunday).

Michele sent me today!

Z: Your father had the right idea. Sadly it wasn't our year but I finished off yesterday's champagne nevertheless!

Linda: that sounds like a lovely family Easter. Now we are alone again until next week I fear we shall do as little as possible!

It's me back again, having just read September and October 2006 posts. Fascinating story and several things strike a chord with me too.
Stephen Fry and bi-polar: can't help wondering if that's the problem with my husband.
Tavistock (photo) : my first love lived near there. His parents kept a pub in Chillaton.
Norwich: my home town for many years and I lived in Norfolk for most of my life.
The diaphragm: enough said.

I'm very lucky to have the time to read your story today. No need to cook as we are invited out to lunch. Our contribution is the cake from a super patisserie.

Hope you are having a relaxing time too.

Happy Easter to you too Pat. It's not a celebration we've ever made much of in our house, although my wife did toast some hot cross buns for the kids' breakfast this morning which smelled good enough to ressurect for.

Michele said to come back and tell you Happy Easter again, Pat! Hope you have a good one, even though you family is gone.

sablonneuse: glad you are finding striking chords - I ought to go back and read them occasionally. Sounds like you are having a good day. Here I'm tryihg to catch up before the next lot come next week-end. No grumbles - we had a great week!

Thanks Oracle - busy but pleasant!

Kim: don't mention HCBs! MTL has quite enough weaknesses!

Thanks Judy - sniff sniff!

i think that the best easter that i ever had was back in 1999 when i went to beirut with a friend. we met up with a lebanese friend there who had previously worked in brussels and his family opened their arms to us for a traditional, lebanese easter meal. it was a wonderful cultural event.

last year, andy ramblings was in belgium, staying with his mum who very generously invited Q, todd and i for their annual easter barbecued lamb. wonderful weather, superb food and far too much booze made it another easter never to forget.

i don't know whether it's age or what, but traditions such as christmas, easter, etc, are, i find, far more fun in the company of others.

happy easter pat and family!

Thank you Zoe. I think my hairdresser is Lebanese and he's such a gentleman and treats me like Her Maj. The only thing is he's a bit possessive about my hair and I'm contemplating high lights and low lights which I know he will refuse to do.

I wish I could say the weather in Pennsylvania was gorgeous. It's more like Christmas today!

Happy Easter to you and yours and a big hello from Michele's.

Thank you Jean-Luc and to you.

MOTD : thank you. we have been blessed this Easter but we often get your weather eventually so I'll keep my warm undies to hand!

Easter presents? I don't think we ever did that (although my family did HALLOWEEN presents, which is even weirder!).

No Easter celebrations around here... just a lazy Sunday which is nice as well.

Glad you enjoyed your holiday!

Is this what they call an "English countryside"? Do they mill things there (like, I don't know, molasses)?

Pat said...

panther girl: Easter presents weren't a tradition in our family so it always surprises me. Also it's so soon after my birthday and Mother's Day. Hope you had a good relaxing time. I have to catch up with a few days housework!

Hoss: You could safely say it was English countryside. 'a thousand years ago this ancient mill on the banks of the Pulham river, was grinding locally grown wheat.'
Make neat notes and I will test you at the end of term!

I'm glad you had a good one with your family, Pat. We tried to tell the Easter story to the girls but I'm not sure they're clear where the rabbits and eggs fit in to it all.

Sam: I have exactly the same problem as your little girls:)
