How lucky they were to have such a long, happy life together. He'll be missed.

That's a shame. It's good that they had so long together, mind. Best wishes to all.

I can never think of the right things to say at times like this.

My dad and I send our condolences Pat, and hope that you wont be too sad. We're sure you're uncle wouldn't want that.

Ohhhh, Pat... hugs.

Pat said...

Wendy: thank you. I'm sad for my aunt and her family but I think George at ninety and registered blind would go in peace.

LOM and Queenie: much appreciated.

"He was a good man," is a great way to be remembered.

My sympathies to your aunt, grief does take its toll.

GG: I've just spoken to my aunt and she was happy to have her son and wife who had flown from California and her daughter and grand-children are there too. We even managed a chuckle when I told her I had just been folding sheets with MTL as Gran - her mother - had taught me but as we didn't have fitted sheets in those days I wasn't sure how to do them. She said she used to do it with George and we agreed men
were pretty useless at it and then she proceeded to tell me how to do the fitted ones. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
George is buried tomorrow at the Veterans Cemetery with military honours. We are very proud of him.

So glad he had a long life fully lived, and I am sorry for your loss. My mother-in-law was also a war bride. She came to this country with a man she barely knew. They have been married 64 years.

Pat said...

Debra: thank you - another success story - that's good to hear.

Naomi: I wonder how many of those wartime marriages lasted so well. My aunt was a little wild in her youth and George was straight as a dye - but it really worked.

Kanani said...

Oh, she was so pretty! I'm sure it must have been quite a romance. So glad it all turned out well and they grew old together.

Pat said...

Kanani: she was really glamorous with lovely clothes that I used to dress up in whilst she was at work;)
Once when I was ill she caught me in her pink bed jacket which Gran had purloined.
'I don't mind' she said 'as long as it isn't the white one with maribou.'
We prayed she wouldn't look up as the white one was airing on the ceiling airer.

Chère Pat , when the winter points its nose ,the angels quiver ...
The pain is so strong , what will be born the memories ,they are immortal.
The wonderful pictures of the passed ,as the indicates Lady Of The Hills ,remain inalterable .

By the thought ,I joins myself to you and your family .
