Saturday night at Pinnochio's

Good job we booked. Even though we were early at 6.30 pm they were turning people away. The food is good Italian the prices reasonable and there is a pleasant ambience. At that time of night you get the golden oldies - except they are more silver than gold and they are reasonably well behaved. On the whole.

MTL's Spotted Dick looked inviting and my cheese cake - vanilla and toffee was unusual and is making my mouth water even now.

Dare I ask, What is "Spotted Dick"? It conjures up all sorts of pictures--none of which could possibly be right! (lol)

This looks like a nice comfy-cozy place...and a Piano, too....! Did you have a sing-song?

I know what "Spotted Dick" is, but I'm not telling.

Well, okay. It isn't a disease.

Naomi: Spotted Dick is a pudding - beloved of British men:-
'The spotted part refers to the raisins and currants in the dough and the word dick' is a colloquial word for pudding. This is not a pudding for the faint-hearted or those on a diet. Made from suet, flour and dried fruit it is high in calories. It is, however, the perfect pudding for a treat on a cold winter's day.'
Actually this looked more sponge than suet to me and MTL admitted it was lighter then norm.
We didn't have a sing song as there were just the two of us.

Charlie: see above. That's what you were going to say wasn't it?

John.g: I thought that would amuse you:)

I don't think I've had spotted dick since I was at school, I loved it with custard, and plenty of skin!

I used to love all steamed puddings - even the school dinner ones - but I wouldn't have expected to find spotted dick at an Italian restaurant.

Eryl: as a girl I helped in the school holidays in what used to be a workhouse full of old people and the smell of custard and pee put me off for life. MTL loves it.

Sandy: they also have sticky toffee pudding. They know their clients:)

I see Naomi has already trumped everyone else re: YTL's dessert. But, as someone said about Britain and America, "Two peoples divided by a common language."

Randall: it's very true and the more one knows the more one realises how big the division.
Word verification is pasto:) It's that little man again
