Michaelmas in the garden

Slowly cyclamen are finding their way to this wild part.
BTW it isn't Michaelmas until the 29th - but you knew that.

This isn't St Michaelmas and it isn't my garden alas - but it is Jesus- courtesy of my friend Gia.

Bless them they come up each year

This must be one I put in last year

It's been so mild the front door has been open all summer.  I do like a good blow through.

Those of you paying attention will remember I decided to empty the fountain, fill it with stones from all over the place and let nature take its course.  What I didn't realise it takes a hell of a lot of stones to fill it so this frog found its way there.
Naturally I asked the Welsh man to bring a couple of samples and - although he thinks I am barmy he obliged.
Aren't they smashing?

Still a way to go.

That's a great idea filling it will stones but yeah you have a way to go yet!

Do you worry that you may get a strange person entering your house when your front door is open?

You do have a distance to go filling the fountain. Perhaps we all should mail you a couple of rocks:)

Joey: when we first came here I was sun-bathing in the garden and was taken aback when a local chap walked right round the house and caught me napping. I got Alastair to block off the path with a high fence/door so I can run round in the altogether if I choose - completely unseen. I keep the door bolted so it is a security thing too. My gardener calls it a secret garden.

Granny Annie: nice idea but not practical. The cuatoms are not very understanding.

John: thank you dear:)

If I still lived in our former home, I could give you enough rocks to fill 5 fountains without batting an eye.

I like your flowers but I did not know that the purple daisies were called michaelmas – I thought they were just a different color daisy, and they are very pretty. As for Michaelmas, I am afraid I don’t know what it is – is it something to do with Christmas? The name sounds pretty close and you said on the 29th – is it December 29? Some special British celebration?

Lovely loveliness all around.

How about flowering plants in the fountain, in between the rocks?

Oh Pat, your garden is always so lovely.
Yes fill your fountain up with stones from the garden shop and then put on top the special ones.

cheers, parsnip

The rock fountain is a lovely idea, and you've made a really good start and at least there's still lots of space there for all the rocks people bring you in the future.

We have had a really warm summer here, but our doors are definitely not left open now, we had our first snow the day before yesterday and a howling gale today. Tomorrow we have to go and check out our garden so see if we lost any trees.

Judy: one of the prices we have to pay for living so far apart:)

Naomi: come to think of it I have a very fat frog - his fate is sealed:)

Vagabonde: I shall write a little more about Michaelmas tomorrow. Thanks for the inspiration.

GG:; that is my ultimate aim. It's just taking longer than I expected.

Parsnip: I'll think about it but I was never one for taking the easy way:)

Nea: we are being very lucky just now. Another balmy day - who knows what is round the corner?
Keep warm.

Pat, I hope you don't mind me copying your idea and doing the rock and flowers in the fountain in my brother's garden.

GG: I'd be delighted but you'll have to give me reports of progress and a photograph when it is complete:) Please.

I just noticed the picture of Jesus! That's the strangest bit of garden sculpture I've ever seen. You should have thrown your arm over his shoulder and took a happy pic.

Exile: alas Jesus was in India whilst I am in the UK.

My brother has decided that it must be a bird bath as the birds need water.

So I'm trimming plants instead, and digging up a patch of land for him and my mother to plant herbs and flowers.

GG: what a good sister you are.
You can never have too many herbs and flowers.
