Angus at Dawn:- "I'm heading back to Staten from downtown Manhattan, wind blows so hard, I'm trying to keep my hay on."
I think 'hay' is a typo. Anyone's guess but what a stunning city

If he was on the ferry, he does mean hat. It is very windy on the water, and it is the best vantage point for seeing NYC. The other good one is atop the Empire State Building.
"Hair or head" perhaps?
Yes, beautiful city.
What a lovely photo.
I enjoyed my visit to NY it is a very exciting city.
cheers, parsnip
Manhattan looks superb like this seen from the water – so many lights!
What a BEAUTIFUL Photo this is.....New York Is Stunning! I'm sure Angus means HAT, don't you think?
My Mother and Grandmother are buried on Staten Island, and as a young singer I played a lot of small nightclubs, and I worked on Staten Island many times....The Ferry is also a great way to see The Statue of Liberty, too.....It's years and years since I have been there.
Judy: yes I think you are right.
Mage: he has recently learned to be sensible about sun protection so I'm fairly sure it would be hat.
Parsnip: I once went there immediately after Vermont and was dreading being in a city but was completely won over.
Vagabonde: it is like a work of art.
The exclamation point is wholly appropriate.
It could be hay if he is the scarecrow from Wizard of Oz:) It is a wonderful photo.
The view of Manhattan from the Staten Island ferry is stunning. If I'm in New York it's one of my favourite tourist trips. I can remember you have to run around the terminal to get back on the same boat again at the Staten Island end.
When I first did it, I think it cost 25c or 50c but nowadays I think its free. Must be one of the best value sightseeing hour round trips on the world.
Exile: aren't you the lucky one?
Granny Annie: now why didn't I think of that?
Rashbre: I think you are probably the most experienced traveller of my blogging friends.
I like 'hay' more!
Which reminds me, I'm in good ol' Florida to spend my mother's birthday with her. She's 78 today! My goodness!
Just love that picture. Perhaps "hat".
I love Hay, let's keep it at that. Love everything about New York. There is wonderful London but manhattan has an energy that you can't beat.
GG: belated birthday greetings to Mum. She's but a girl!
Mage and ALW: poetic licence - Hay it is:)
I once - staying with sister in Vermont was dreading going back to the city but N.Y. won me over. Mind you Fonteyn and Nuryev might have had something to do with it and the odd gallery and museum.
Lovely photo.
I remember the ferry and the view on a very cold day in February. It was many years ago (before 9/11) and we also went up one of the Twin Towers.
sablonneuse: that must have been even more awful for you to watch.
That's a great photo, I would think he means hat, but you never know!
Joey: I think you are right. He hasn't got much hay on top. Sorry Angus:)
