Camp as Christmas

Reza, Spice Prince of India

The Lake Palace Hotel Udaipur

A favourite way to struggle through the foggy torpor of January is to watch chefs on TV.  Not with any intention of copying their recipes and trying to emulate them but just to marvel at their skill and get the juices flowing.  Nigella is a sensual delight but a new favourite is Reza - camp as Christmas, with charming manners - a delight in itself.  An added perk he is cooking in Rajasthan where we spent one of our last hurrahs and we can see the Lake Palace Hotel where we had a heavenly lunch.  And the very barge where we had a moonlit picnic on the Lake where my Deli belly was but a dstant memory.
He is on Channel 5 at 1.45pm.  You can catch the last one tomorrow.  He really is the Spice King.

From the start I thought I know this man and then he laughed in profile and guess what?
Freddie Mercury - as I live and breathe.

My daughters watch The Food Network relentlessly. And I let them. There's nothing age-inappropriate on that channel. Even the commercials are innocent!

Hey, do you remember who Graham Kerr was? The Galloping Gourmet? One of yours who was broadcast here when I was a child.

There was me thinking you were blogging from Udaipur Pat!

UB: and inevitably even I absorb some of the know-how.
I do remember Graham Kerr; a late friend - writer - did book reviewing and often gave me books. I'm sure I have one of his somwhere in the kitchen.

Macy: if only I had had a digital camera then.

Yesterday I listened to my husband and his physical therapist discuss their food experiences when stationed in India with the military. I might be off of India food for a while...just sayin'.

Map: he's sadly missed.

Granny Annie: thanks for the giggle:)

Yes, I like watching the chefs too, but G fills these cold hours with NCIS reruns.

Mage: I had to google but yes that sounds like a man thing:)

When I saw the title 'Camp as Christmas' I thought Map had released his new album slightly later than anticipated.

Chef: I'll tell him you said that shall I ?

Will have to see if he's on Netflix, he looks gorgeous. I read cook books and never make the recipes, but I can dream. I once watched Nigella make pigs ears and that sealed the deal for me - she's my kind of women!

Funny (but true) story. I sent the first copy of the first pressing of my latest album to my dearest friend Chef. The lovely Siobhán (his long suffering wife) sent a beautiful thank-you card, telling me that Himself was running around in his briefs on Christmas morn screeching like a wee girl on opening his 'surprise'! All she could hear was 'OMG. OMG, OMG, O M G!!!!!' He couldn't eat his porridge for all the excitement. Bless. :¬)

I love, love, love to watch cooking shows even if I don't like to go the extra mile in the kitchen.

I have a cousin in London who, when he was younger, could've been Freddy Mercury's twin brother.

Oh, here's movie you might enjoy this winter: Mistress of spices. Romance and beauty and healing spices.

GG: thanks I'll put it on my list for when I get Netflix or similar.
