O bel isk

Aside

I have a rampant everlasting sweet pea (doesn’t everybody) which is swallowing up one of the beds. Karen thinks I should get an obelisk but two, as one would look silly, and drape the RSP over it. I did think with two statues, a bird bath, a fountain, a stone seat, four frogs and an arbour, so say nothing of chairs and tables, that probably there was enough hard ware for a not very big garden but K says they are a good price at the nursery as long as one avoids the wooden ones at £100. I think I shall manage to do that.

Naomi (side-bar) was worried that I had been dormant for a while. In fact I have had my head down trying to finish yet another edit before printing the whole MS ( I have already done 10,000) and then I can feel at least I have one copy which can’t be lost in any crash. Kim came up with the brilliant idea of storing it on G-mail but I will have to do this in two parts as the whole is too large. Hopefully the family – when they come soon will help me with this. Today – after brekkers I am determined to visit my cyber friends and then get back on the job.

Come to think of it - I’m not absolutely sure what an obelisk is.

I wondered what the RSP was...LOL!
And if that is the Sweet Pea, what does RSP Stand for....I am not very savvy with these things....!

Glad you are okay, my dear, and just immersed in this wonderfully productive way....! I think it is FABULOUS! Truly. What an accomplisgemt Pat, when you see it all together on the printed page.

Obelisk was Asterix's large companion in the cartoon books...

that was obelix, you wouldn't want him in your garden god knows what mischief he'd get up to - can you tell i'm putting off doing the things i should be doing?

Mei Del: now do I want one in my garden I wonder?

Naomi: apart from trying to keep a dozen balls in the air I am enjoying getting it together.
RSP is my shorthand for rampant sweet pea:)

Kim: ah! All is clear now. I think.

Since visiting Barbara Hepworth's garden in St. Ives last year I've rather like the idea of cramming my tiny garden with hardware. I'd love a few sculptures. And I think anything with plants scrambling up it tends to disappear anyway, so a couple of obelisks shouldn't add too much to a sense of overcrowdedness. The cane or willow ones are nice and very cheap.

Mei del: join the club. I now go to vacuum:(

Eryl: thanks. I'm off to the nursery tomorrow.

Nice photos as always, dear.

Cheers.

Do you realise with sweet peas, you are supposed to move the top of the sp stem and move it to the bottom of the trellis or whatever its on and it will grow up again and again if you keep doing it, that is how the professional sweetpea growers do it :)

Hi Randall! put the coffee on - I'll be over soon.

Marmite: I did not know that. Makes sense when it is rampant. I'll give it ago. Thank you.

Obelisk - think Cleopatra's Needle or even that big phallic object in Washington that Forest Gump ran infront of whilst yelling for Jenny.

I would rather have rampant sweetpea as opposed to bindweed which I think I can only remove from my pear tree with a flame thrower... Mind, my MIL is coming down for a week two days after my maternity kicks in so I just might get her to help me out in garden...

sim: I have a bit of the bind weed and also ground elder which is worse. How nice to have a MIL who can garden. She must be excited about the baby. Is it her first grandchild?

An obelisk is a 4 sided monument with a pyramid on top. The Washington Monument is an obelisk. I have a wooden one you can have if you come and get it.....LOL

Judy: that's a very generous offer and my grateful thanks but yesterday we went and bought two metal ones - only because they are cheaper and will be covered - I hope. If the rain holds off I'll have a go today- fingers crossed:)
