Lovely Day

Aside

…if you discount the weather that is. They did a 350 mile round trip and miraculously arrived shortly after I did. We had arranged to meet at noon, in a nearby village inn and MTL sweetly dropped me there so I could imbibe. I had booked a table in what they call their restaurant which is four tables, three steps up from the bar. It’s friendly, informal and the food is good and I’m happy to say the visitors approved.

She has blue eyes and a smile that starts deep inside and warms the cockles. She’s old enough to be my daughter and if ever I had been lucky enough to have one she would have filled the bill. He has blue eyes and – like his blog – is laid back, with a wit which makes me laugh. I have become slightly obsessed with shoulders of late – what with the swimming and all; his are great and in fact neither of them would look out of place in Beijing.

We dove straight in with questions, observations and general chat – no holds barred. Incidentally they are old friends and both have partners. She and I drank wine and water – modestly, and he – the driver, drank water and tea. We ate cheesy red pepper omelette. Ratatouille, Tortellini - and I had chips - for the first time for years and was so enamoured I didn’t notice what they had. We all had puds- one lemon brulee, two chocolate puddings one with cream – one with custard.

Conversation was relaxed and easy and we touched on life, death, family, writing, getting published, other bloggers and who we would like still to meet, marriage, drugs, religion but drew the line at politics. She readily agreed to read my 4 page synopsis and I know she will give me an honest opinion which I shall value as she has been a regular reader, is an accomplished writer herself and is responsible for my blogging in the first place.

I wish I could convey how delightful it was – you had to have been there, but MTL took one look at my face and could tell without my uttering a word. I’d be rubbish at poker.

Oooh I nearly forgot; she is Zinnia Cyclamen and he is Shane – both on my side –bar and if you haven’t already, click on and enjoy.

Yes, interesting to meet other bloggers isn't it? Sometimes they're not at all as you imagine. Luckily Gorilla Bananas was just like his photograph, and I was pleased I put extra fruit on my hat for him to nibble on. When you say neither ZC and Shane would look out of place in Beijing, do you mean they're Chinese?

Judy: you've had some nice ones too:)

Daphne: you are a card. No they aren't Chinese - just very fit looking. MTL- as we swapped cars in pouring rain, managed to notice Zinnia had a 'good figure'. She kept her face hidden to respect his privacy.

I'm glad you had fun. These real-life meetings offer so much more than mere blog musings -- as much as we enjoy the blog stuff.

Cheers.

Mei Del: Daphne is responsible for a lot of mirth.

Randall: have you had many. I don't remember readig about them. Or are you keeping mum. Or is my memory going. Yes it is.

*blushing like a beetroot*... but I can get my own back by telling your readers, Pat, that you look at least 10 years younger than you are, partly because you have the most beautiful smooth glowing skin, how do you do that? (And you'd better approve this comment for publication or I'll put it on my own blog!) I think you were very brave to agree to the demands of two strange bloggers who bombarded your email inbox with requests for a face-to-face meeting. I completely agree that it was delightful, if we all lived nearer to each other I'm sure we'd do it again soon. And if I didn't have a perfectly good mum already, I'd adopt you like a shot.

It sounds like a lovely blog-meet. I do enjoy meeting other bloggers too and have made many friends via the net that I keep up with and regularly visit.

Those flowers are absolutely beautiful:)

Oh, Pat, how you understate.

My sister, who's visiting us at the moment, has just nearly wet herself - I read the Beijing line to her. I, meanwhile, quite liked it.

I think it's fair to say that we both really enjoyed the trip, too. It was novel and nice and not weird at all (you never know), and it was amazing that the trip didn't feel so long.

Peace and well-being to you and your lot.

Glad you had such a lovely time, Pat. What a funny old game blogging is and how exciting and rewarding to meet long time blog-pals finally.

Zinnia : a glass of wine at lunch time.

Zoe: I think it is easier when you are younger. i have to space my excitements out.

Shane: 'not weird at all' I didn't realise you had misgivings - it was brave of you both. Afterwards I felt really exhilarated and exhausted and I wish I had taken a photo - purely for my own pleasure - and with your permission of course, because faces fade so quickly.
Best wishes to all the family and I hope Sis has dried out.

Sam: your turn next?

Isn't it just delightful to meet Bloggers and also to see them, once again...! I had a lovely visit with Jamie Dawn from Arkansas....(About 3000+ Miles from me....) This is my second visit with her and her Brother. I saw them last Summer, too!
It sounds like you had a WONDERFUL time, Pat!

Pat said...

Naomi: no it can't be the same Shane. He is definitely a Brit.
I remember reading about your visit and it encouraged mme to do likewise. so glad I did.

It's lovely meeting bloggers whom you've 'met' online, face to face isn't it? I was thrilled when Sophie called in to see us. Unfortunately Keith was put off coming to see us by an unfortunate telephone encounter with Bear.

Sandy: I'm all agog:-
a/ I don't think I know Sophie but will look her up from your blpg and
b/ What tranpired twixt Keith and Bear? Did they meet their match? Do tell!

Belleek: what can I say? Believe me I did appreciate it:)

Keith rang to talk about the possibility of coming to see us but Bear picked up the phone in the bedroom at the same time as I answered it. There was some confusion. We both thought it was Bear's brother and I hung up but Keith humg up as well. However, not before he heard Bear swearing at me for 'ruining his call'. Keith heard something like "I'm bl***y cross with you...." and probably thought Bear meant him! Anyway, he decided not to come and see us and I can't say I blame him but it would have been nice to meet him.

I can see that I shall have to come and meet you soon Pat. We did meet briefly in the 60's (showing my age now!) when I worked for Auntie Beeb in London (I was with the Special Effects Dept), but I don't think you would remember me now anyway.

When I went to Alsace earlier this year I intended to call and see Sandy, but as she said, I thought "Better give it miss this time round at least!"

Pat said...

Keith\; I'm sorry you and Sandy didn't meet but it obviously wasn't the right time. Bad luck all round. I don't know how MTL would react to my meeting 'a nice old gentleman':)
I hope the weather is being kind and that you are enjoying France and not missing Max too much.
