Reasons to be Cheerful

Aside

A still small voice spake unto me.

‘Thou art so full of misery,

Were it not better not to be?’

Some time ago whilst doing Michele’s (see side bar) ‘Meet and Greet’ where you visit blogs previously unknown to you I came across Crazie Queen craziequeen.blogspot.com/. She wrote movingly of her friend Minerva who was battling with cancer and CQ was inspired to take part in the ‘Race for Life’ I visited Minerva’s site and, I’m sure along with many others, included her in my daily prayers.

Last night Crazie Queen instructed us to visit Minerva’s site and I read the following.

‘Brace yourselves, this will be a shock.. As of today, as of this morning, I am cancer free. Yes, you did read that right. The CT scan showed No Sign of Disease otherwise known as NED.

I am crying with relief as I write this. I do not have cancer, but I have a future with my children, I have a career, I have a life.

Back when I have calmed down!

In exultation,

Minerva’

That’s one great big reason to be cheerful.

Then January- my personal bete noir mois – (that doesn’t look right but you know what I mean) will soon be over and Spring is just round the corner. The picture below is the view from the cottage in Dorset we have booked for a week in June so that is something to look forward to; essential at this time of year.

What are you looking forward to? There must be something.

I'm looking forward to being warm again; if we have a Summer that is!

Keith: we HAVE to have a summer; we're OWED. Have you any French trips planned?

Hiking here in March.

Cheers.

Randall: that looks super. The second photo down could be Dartmoor. I now have to find a map and see where Arizona is in relation to Missouri.
Found it! Looks a long drive.

Gosh, I have so many things to look forward to I don't know where to start. Okay, one little thing, I look foward to finishing a baby's quilt and giving it to her mummy. And tomorrow's a friend turns 17 [I have friends of all ages], and I look forward to giving her her present.

GG: you really are a 'giver'. I hope they give you much love back.

Minerva's news is so FANTASTIC! Like you, I was deeply moved, having followed Minerva's journey for quite a very long time now. Bless Her!

That cottage IS something to look forward to Pat....It looks so peaceful and lovely and green...(What is it about January and February too, I'm sorry to say....I guess because these are generally dark, cold months, mostly....Bring On Spring, immediately, please, that is wjat I am looking forward to!

About "EVENING"....doon't feel shame for not knowing it---it came out in July and was almost not in theatres...and was out on DVD in September....!! It just got buried in bad reviews. I found it very much worth seeing, just for those actresses alone! Did you ever see "ISADORA"? Now that is worth tracking down for Vanessa Regrave's performance alone. Again, BRILLIANT!

Waking up tomorrow!

Kim: there is something about blue flowers.

Naomi: I knew you'd be happy about Minerva. I did see Isadora - long long ago and am lucky to have seen Vanessa on stage - more recently in 'Lady Windemere's Fan' She - like an old wine - has grown into herself although she was a radiant beauty in the sixties.

I've just received an invitation to an Indian wedding...sadly, it's in Lowestoft rather than India, but I can still get all saried up and have fun.

I've something else, better, but it's still a secret. I'll soon be allowed to tell, however.

I'm looking forward to seeing how my garden develops. My daughter and I made changes in the Autumn and put in lots of half-dead looking objects that we hope will burst into colour - eventually. (You've guessed it, we're hopeless gardeners.)

Pat said...

Z: you tease! Lovely to haver an excuse to wear a sari. I have a - something like a Shalwar jameeze - you know what I mean.

Sablonneuse: when I look at the photos I took in the summer I can't believe this moss ridden sodden mess will ever bloom again. I'm sure your will be lovely.

I bet I know z's secret. I just know it! I'm looking forward to being right about that.

As for me, myself and I, I'm looking forward to something good happening to me, and also to finding out what it is, so that I can look forward to it even better.

What a brilliantly positive blog-post exercise. Thank you, pi, I feel quite uplifted and anticipatory.

Pat said...

Dandelion: now I'm doubly anticipatory. I don't suppose...
No - I thought not:(
Just a hint? I was thinking something beginning with 'b'. Or maybe a 'k'.

Monozygote said...

No, you thought right, sadly. (I think).
As for z, it could be 'b', 't', 's', 'p' or 'g'. Oh, or 'd'. Or 'f', or 'u'. Or 'o', if one is being very formal.

Retirement. Only another 13 years to go!

Pat said...

Dandelion: thanks a bunch:)

Daphne: and then the time will rip by. Enjoy the anticipation - often the best part:)

What brilliant news for Minerva and her loved ones. Good or bad, you never know what life's going to do, do you? What a new lease on her's she's going to have. Terrific news.

The Irish Blog Awards in March is what leaps to mind.

Seeing my best friend's firstborn later in the year.

My Gran's 100th birthday party, which will be held this summer with or without her.

Pat said...

Sam: lucky you!

Nea: that should be great. I'll keep my fingers crossed but it's lovely that you will have it come what.
