KIR LOVERS

AKA The Maroons and Sam

Aside

Our son from France is here for the week-end and has just told me of a useful variation of a Kir. When you have a red wine which is a little too tangy, sharp or vinegary add Cassis and this makes a Cardinal.

A Kir is white wine and Cassis, and a Kir Royale is champagne or a sparking white wine and Cassis.
Cassis is macerated blackcurrants in a fortified white wine

Bottoms up!

Interesting! I'll have to tell my hubby about this. I wonder if it works with Chardonnay. Sometimes I find it to be a bit "bitey." Thanks Pat :)

One of my favourite drinks..and if you add a sugar lump and a little brandy to a glass of champagne it makes a champagne cocktail which is just yummy...

minerva: champagne cocktails bring back memories of hilarious dejeuners I had at my friends farm house in the Dordogne - with huitres and we would all get a bit silly.

Sounds lovely, Hope you have a lovely weekend. I like the pictures, Bill Franklyn was such a sauve looking man wasn't he?

You look a little like Ingrid Bergman in the second illustration.

This would all make a lovely exhibition you know.

Jean-luc: ah ha!

Anna : thank you. Malheureusement I was sous le termps on Saturday but am fine again today. Too much indulgence Friday night. I blame MTL! You're right about Bill. He was a sweetie but I always felt like teen-ager with him - not the mature married lady I was supposed to be. I laughed about the exhibitiion. I think the family think I've made enough of one already!

A Kir Royale is cassis with champagne and a French friend made a cocktail similar to Minerva's but he added a little freshly squeezed orange juice as well. Delish
