Map mentioned this; I had to hear it and then I had to share it. A good memory of Amy; I love the way - after she successfully completes the first phrase - she kisses her necklace and looks Heavenward.
Actually, she looked Heavenward first and then kissed her necklace.....Voice-wise, she is channeling Billie Holiday and someone else---The name just won't come to me....
I LOVE these Duet Albums....This one has so many beautiful ballads on it and such lush beautiful arrangements---I wish Mr. Bennett had done a few more songs with Ms. Winehouse.....I know that's bot how it works--but, it is just my own personal wish.... Thanks for this Pat.
Naomi: you'll have to forgive me. I watched about four variations and the one I put on face book shows the kiss and the look more clearly. I got the Billie Holliday tone almost hiding under another note - quite fascinating. More would have been good but on TV this morning he said you could tell she wasn't well. There is another video where she tells of her father's reactions when she told him she was singing with Mr Bennett and he said it was only his favourite song and only his favourite singer and did she even know who he was? An amusing father/daughter scenario.
Amazing. Did you know that Tony Bennett almost died in 1979 from a drug overdose. He managed to overcome his drug addiction. He said Amy Winehouse knew she would die from her addiction which was alcohol. Such lessons to be learned from both of these famous entertainers.
I am still so sad that Amy passed away. What a terrible waste. Thank goodness they got this on film.
Tony B's album was #1 on the Billboard charts here in the U.S. when it was released last week. He's what? 79 years old?! I think that was some sort of record.
Granny Annie: I didn't know that about Tony. He looks so well and strong now. I think Amy dropped the drugs and alcohol took over at the end according to what one reads over here.
UB: Mr Bennett is 85. He's having a long birthday celebration and so deserves it. I though it was sweet that he appeared to have the words in front of him - why take a chance?
i saw this video over at map's, too, pat - it's one that can never be seen enough though, isn't it - and naomi has it just right - if that isn't billie holiday!! i nearly fell out of my chair when i heard her - channeling for sure! i'd not heard that voice from her before so it was especially powerful now - just powerful! thanks for posting it again - as with many things, once is never enough!!! ;)
Gypsywoman: When I saw it at Map's I didn't realise it was a video - thought it was just a picture but it gave me the desire to hear it. Silly me!!!! T.B. said on TV that Amy was a great jazz singer.
Grand mother but still a girl at heart. Married to MTL(my true love)after a separation of 30 years. Had three careers: trained paediatric nurse, National photographic model and business woman. Now settled in SW and enjoying our five children and ten grandchildren and making the most of what time we have left.
In January 2013 I lost MTL.

Lovely !
I was able to see Mr. Bennett sing at a small club many years ago and they also had many of his paintings displayed.
Wonderful !
cheers, parsnip
Parsnip: lucky you! That must have been memorable - when he was in his prime.
What a voice, what a loss.
I always try to play some Amy at the right gig when I dj.
