may she rest in peace. xox
So sad, she was such a wonderful actress.
She was so young too, I was so sorry to hear. We seem to have had some sad losses recently, don't we.
Z: yes 72. It feel a little close to home. She always said she was three years younger - and who can blame her. Seems a little mean to put the three years back.
She was one of my mother's favourites.
I wanted to be like Susannah York when I was younger... so strange I was just thinking her the other day and then today I read the news.
cheers, parsnip
I just soi that on=n the Internet today. So sad.....She was very talented! RIP, dear Ms. York
I JUST SAW THAT ON THE INTERNET, TODAY....My finger got all screwed up. But the sentiment was real even though the spelling was all screwed up!
what an elegant woman! Rest in peace, indeed.
Off topic:
I'm in the middle of a novel that makes me think of you and your lovely country every time I crack it open. Old Filth by Jane Gardam. Ever hear of it? I'm going to have to insist that you pick up a copy. ("Filth," by the way, meaning Failed In London? Try Hong Kong.") Nothing salacious.
Naomi: I feel she was unlucky to be around at the same time as Julie Christie and Vanessa Redgrave and when her marriage broke up her two children were her first priority over her career.
UB: I'm glad you explained the filth bit:) OK I'll try and order it.
Eryl, Parsnip, Debra: we lived - at one time - in the same area and I would see her on the train, in the pub and once went to an open air play in the grounds of her large country house. I think her husband may have written it. The Heavens opened and it was rained off. We were soaked and didn't return for a second viewing.
Savannah, St Jude: I thought she was charming in the Greengage Summer - one of the first films she made.
UB: it's ordered but third in line to read. I'll let you know what I think;)
I remember her - a very good actress.
Films made in the sixties were so stylish [and still are].
Rest in Peace, Susannah.
Sx
Judy and Scarlet: she was also an activist and joined the campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and to save the rain forest in the sixties.
I always think of those films where ladies drove in cars with the top down, wearing scarves to protect their hair, as so dreamy-romantic.
She tried to save the rainforest as far back as the 60's?
Is it my imagination or did people care more for causes then?
I wish I could see some of her films.
GG: the rain forest was one of her causes but I can't be sure of the timing. Yes they were more caring and passionate the viz Vanessa Redgrave and Jane Fonda.
sigh....
Buck up Kev:)
