Well that looks dramatic! My mother loved Ray Milland and only now can I see why.
Eryl: it was the first of it's kind and quite riveting. Your Mum had good taste.
This was a ground-breaking movie and one of the best about alcoholism. Billy Wilder-haven't heard that name in a while.
This movie brought to mind Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick in "Days of Wine and Roses" from Blake Edwards in 1962.
Charlie: I saw them both but 'Lost Weekend' had a bigger impact for me. I remember the story being serialised in one of the dailies and it was shocking to see - in those days - a movie hero in a film of such degradation. A forerunner of other films of addiction I think.
Ah, what a great film that was, and what a golden age for cinema it was just after WWII - astonishing really.
Gadjo: it was a great time but the sweet rationing went on rather a long time;)
The picture you'll be talking about for years to come
Indeed - 65 years later! :)
Kim: well spotted:)
