Joe Satriani
Driving along to loud music this week-end - taking yet
another load to the dump I asked my son who the guitarist was.
Joe – also known as Satch - was born in New York in 1956. He has Italian forbears and when he was aged
14 heard of the death of Jimi Hendrix.
He told his football coach that he was giving up everything to play the
guitar.
Eventually he became a teacher and many of his pupils have
made a name for themselves. In 1975 he
moved to Berkeley
to pursue a music career.
In 1988 he played
for Mick Jagger and has been associated with Deep Purple, Alice Cooper and
Chicken foot.
Flying in a Blue Dream
which he wrote in 1989 was inspired by the death of his father and his guitar
playing in this voices his joy and anguish - once the video escapes the audience
preliminaries and gets into its stride.
I found it and – I have to confess him –mesmerising.
The video below If I
could fly was said to have inspired Coldplay’s Viva la Vida
There was some controversy and it was settled out of court. There is a limit to what I can post –
something vital is ‘too small’ but if your appetite is whetted explore You Tube.
I warned Sheila, my help, there would be loud guitar music
this morning and just as she was leaving she said:
‘I’ve discovered your secret, I was expecting some Segovia but really you are
a rock chick.’
Can’t be badJ

I've always known you were a rock chick!
Good music! I had never heard of him before.
And being a rock chick is a good thing!
Now THERE'S a name I never expected to see on your blog! I am gobsmacked! And "inspired" is being kind to Coldplay. I'd classify it as a blatant ripoff.
Daphne: was it the leather jacket?
Marjolein: me neither but he's a welcome addition to my treasures.
UB: I'm not all lace and double damask, dinner napkins:)
I don't want to end up in court but clearly there was something amiss for a settlement to have happened.
I look forward to seeing the photos of you dressed all in leathers :)
LOL rock on, mama! ;) xoxoxoxo
Kim: leather trousers I abhor:)
Savannah: I rock to Joe - but only in solitude. Mustn't frighten the horses.xoxoxox
Brilliant! You rocker,you! :-)
John: you might have told me about him;)
Rock chicks and hip hop babes, they don't get any better. :D
I am having a "sound"problem....I cannot here anything on YouTube or here....And, on top of that, I don't have any idea of who this guy is....I know---Shame On me!!! (lol)
Methinks we have only just scratched the surface with Pat and her wayward past. Still waters run deep.
I have heard of him, but I don't know his music. I'll have to remedy that.
I think I have to second all of the above comments.
Your choice of music today is outstanding.
cheers, parsnip
Joey: that's good to hear:)
Naomi: that's such a pity - I'm sure you'd appreciate his talent.
I didn't know about him until this weekend.
Chef: no no. Like most women what you see is what you get.
Judy: I find I don't like all his music but this one is ace.
Parsnip: such fun to discover a new musician who rocks you.
No shock that you rock:)
Nope, that's not a bad thing at all. :)
Granny Annie; takes one to know one:)
Mage: just don't ask me to wear those heels.
How splendid to have discovered your inner rocker, I could see you dressed like Bjork.
Rock On Pat! :¬)

Satriani is one of those guitarists' guitarists who uses a particular signature Ibanez guitar shape.
And if you've ever seen Spın̈al Tap (the comedy movie about a rock band) it's Satriani playing some of the Nigel Tufnel riffs.
Set the volume to 11. Here's Nigel on Satriani ;-)

Rashbre: thanks - that's funny. I must se Spinal Tap one of these days.
does that mean Joe has a SOH?
Eryl: I'm definitely not wearing her dying swan dress.
Map: great hair style hasn't he?
As had I, once! :¬)

I can't access the link to the music, sorry.
Gadjo: that's a pity. It's really is great IMO.
When you have a moment go to You Tube or Google Joe Satriani and 'If I could fly.'
'Tis what I like about you, Pat. You don't fit into a 'box'...nurse, model, business-woman, and don't forget that you were in the acting world. You've always kept an open mind about life, it is there to be discovered.
Rock on!
GG: I try - not always successfully.
Ah yes, very nice - quality rock music!
