Meet the Warminster Four

I have never been owned by a cat so it's a novel experience to get to know them over a few days. These four are two sets of brothers; the elder aged fifteen, the younger four.

This is Zoot - a very nervous little cat bullied by his brother Syd.

This is Syd - the bully who adores my grandson.

This is Joe who befriended Zoot and takes care of him - a very caring cat.

This is George - getting a bit grumpy in his old age but devoted to the grand daughters. All the cat's names have obscure origins eg Jimi Hendrix's pianist. I was under the impression that cats, once fed are pretty low maintenance but my son mentioned there are occasional sicknesses and vet bills.

I had two Siamese cats for about 15 years. Lucy and Mr. Chow. I miss them terribly. Girlfriends would come and go but those cats were always there and always happy to see me when I got home.

UB: 15 years - maybe it's time to replace them. Would the girls like then I wonder?

Cats are the best protection against mice and vermin the world has ever seen. If they just had a dog's "personality," they'd be perfect.

Cheers.

Ah the grumpy old guy. I've had several cats make it to 18... one in particular went stone cold deaf and had to be reminded that eating was a good thing. He'd raise his head and go 'hmmmmm?' when I would go pick him up to take him to his meal. Loved that boy! Old George looks rather like him, only more white. Mine saw me through a number of relationships, also. And there are two still (young ones) in the picture with the current beau, who is learning that cats can be just as interesting (and ever more entertaining) as dogs.

We once had MANY cats [thanks to my crazy li'l sister], I know cats are not flesh and fur, they have personalities...yet it always surprises me.

I'm afraid of Syd the bully, brrrr :-D

I mean, I know cats are not ONLY flesh and fur...

Since I am always for the underdog, I'll take the gorgeous black one. Too bad his bro lords it over him!

Randall: oooh I really wouldn't enjoy their little presents which apparently they present one with from time to time.

Ponita : lucky the new beau isn't anti cat. That could be a problem as they obviously are important to you.

GG: don't worry. No bullying is allowed in that house.

Judy: don't worry - Joe and the grown ups don't allow it.

Scarlet: I can't imagine you with a cold lap.

Is Syd named after the late Mr Vicious?

I miss my cats, but it's fun to visit with your extended fur family. :)

I feel a certain affinity with George, 'getting grumpy in his old age'

Daphne: not Syd Vicious - Syd Barrett
'Syd Barrett (6 January 1946 – 7 July 2006), born Roger Keith Barrett, was an English singer-songwriter, guitarist and painter. He is most remembered as a founding member of psychedelic/progressive rock band Pink Floyd, providing major musical and stylistic direction in their early work, although he left the group in 1968 amidst speculations of mental illness exacerbated by heavy drug use.

Barrett was active as a rock musician for about seven years, recording two albums with Pink Floyd and two solo albums before going into self-imposed seclusion lasting more than thirty years. His post rock-band life was as an artist and a keen gardener, ending with his death in 2006. A number of biographies have been written about him since the 1980s and Pink Floyd wrote and recorded many tributes to him after he left, most known the 1975 album Wish You Were Here.'
Well you did ask:)ecksfor

Those are beautiful cats and it is odd to see they are so different. Usually cats in one household will resemble each other more closely. I wonder how each arrived?

All of our cats are feral barn cats. They are nice to me and will let me pet them when I feed them their small morning breakfast then they are off to clear the property of mice, etc. They never come near me during the day.

Pat said...

Granny Annie: I'm not sure how the cats arrived except that as the two senior ones were getting older they acquired the younger ones. I must find out. I wouldn't say the cats were affectionate but they allow the owners to lavish affection on them.
I think all those years my son was deprived as we never had a cat.

I love your photos of them, their characters suit them. The cat I had as a youngster lived until he was 21, and my eldest daughter has warm memories of him sitting on her lap next to Granny's fireplace. He was the softest cat ever, but he could still bring unwanted presents home even in extreme old age.

Nea: that's amazing. He must have been well cherished.

Well, CATS are Low Maintainence in the "you don't have to walk them" depoartment....But, like any living creature, there are things that do happen...But, very much worth it in my opinion. They are utterly fascinating and so incredibly comforting.....Independent? YES!
They say DOGS HAVE MASTERS AND CATS HAVE SERVANTS......LOL! Very True!
