Here’s one I made earlier

…about a week ago actually. I had a feeling Easter would be somewhat of an anticlimax after the birthday fun so I was prepared. At least I’ve cleaned a glory hole of a room – two sculleries knocked together –the only problem now is all the countless cardboard boxes sitting in the hall which of course I will replace in exactly the right order. I swear they breed in this house.

Back to our jaunt - we decided to try a pub I don’t think we have used before although I do remember, when I was doing the Coleridge Way in sections, reversing into the pub wall - no damage honestly. I wouldn’t like you to think I make a habit of getting up close and personal with walls – it can’t be more than twice in ten years. It’s The Plough at Holford so we drove to Wiliton and took the Bridgwater road instead of the Taunton. It has a good car park – always a plus in our book.

There were lots of cyclists but they were pleasant people and favoured the sunny garden. I love eating al fresco in France and Greece but here in the UK I prefer a shady indoors. I felt like a small walk, so after a good lunch I left MTL reading in the garden and wandered up a lane towards the village. It was very peaceful, and busy looking for pretty views - I stepped backwards into a bog and had the greatest difficulty retrieving my right foot which was now covered in black gooey ooze or even black oozy goo.

Tufts of grass and small boulders helped me to remove the worst of the gunge but I had to wait until it was completely dry to brush them and then scrub then with soapy suds. An uneventful drive home and we were glad we’d made the effort.

My image of you definitely doesn't include overly close wall association. Muddy shoes, though, is a different matter.

It seems you've had better weather than us, am a little envious, glad you had a good time though!

Mapstew: yes blue sky without much warmth in the sun.

Eryl: the CWA has diminished as I have driven less. And the mud has vaished - secret is to let them dry first.

Queenie; that was about week ago. Yesterday was lovely but I was working.

And precisely where else should Easter be spent other than in a place that gives you black oozy goo?...;-)

You get an egg?

Sounds very satisfying!

It sounds like a lovely day - apart from the gooey ooze (or was it oosy goo)...

Four D: no egg! But I still have two gorgeous boxes of chocolates which I'm ignoring as I have just got below 9 stone. BTW we did nothing at Easter - except buy some plants. Holford was the week before.

Pearl: apart from the bog it was:)

Leigh: there was a nano-second when I thought I couldn't get my foot out and - of course I didn't have my mobile and there were only sheep about.

I've been so enjoying this jaunt and the photos. I've been reading DE Stevenson for years, and you have brought all her tales to life for me. You would have laughed to see me saying out loud, "It really exists! It's just like I imagined."

Black gooey ooze or black oozy goo or even gooey oozy blackness - it's the same in any language, and it's just asking to be a-scraped off.

I can help you with the choclates :)

Here we have to watch out for the black oozy goo stuff too. As the frozen ground thaws great cracks and potholes appear, full of it, and if you step in accidently you're lucky if it's just shoe-depth, some feel bottomless.

Nea:How I wish you were close enough to scoff. The postman got one the other day. Your goozy bits sound scary.

Maggie: I had to look up DE Stevenson. Here's what a fan said:
'I think the reason I love the DES books so much is the characters are so brave and do what's right even in the face of difficulties. They cheer me and make me want to try to be a better person.' Sounds like my kind of book:)

Gadjo: my lightweight walking boots are now pristine again you'll be relieved to hear:)

Jimmy: sweet talk will get you nowhere.

Yoikes, that was scary, did you panic?

Blue skies, cool wind...I think I like that combination.

Ah, English countryside. I never knew it has oozy goo though.

GG:I panicked slightly until I got my foot out. I really didn't want to topple backwards into it.
