Lovely picture. I've got a DVD of the mono Great Expectations somewhere. Need to dig out and re-watch.

Eryl and Rashbre: after Estelle and
Ophelia it was never quite the same IMO.

Simply glowing. Thank you.

Another classic beauty. Perhaps I'm getting too old, but nothing compares to the days when beautiful women left something to the imagination. Dare I say, the allure was a 100 fold more enticing than the "show what you've got to everyone and his/her cat" attitude that seems to exist now.

Cheers.

She was very beautiful. I understand her final movie is coming out next month.

I fell in love with her with "The Blue Lagoon" and "The Clouded Yellow".

She was so very beautiful and a lovely actress, too...! I agree: RIP, dear Jean Simmons.

Maggie: it is one of my favourite photos of her.

Randall: I agree - there must be a bit of mystery.

Kanani: I didn't realise she was still making movies - I id see a late play on TV.

Naomi: I was sad to hear on one of the obit programmes that she had an alcohol problem.

Now there's someone I'd love to have photographed

Kim: at what stage in her life?

A beautiful woman and a role model to so many others. There is definitely a reason that era of her life and she herself were so iconic and still are.

St Jude: I remember thinking how lucky she was when she became Olivier's protege and it looked like she and Granger would be the new Larry and Viv.

Jack: I had forgotten The Blue Lagoon.

I had heard that a long time ago--and it was said, that THAT was what broke up her marriage to Richard Brooks, but I honestly don't know that this is a fact. One thing is for sure: She was a truly lovely and talented actress.

Probably most of them, to be honest. It's a treat to photograph a beautiful young woman, of course, but as faces age they become more interesting.

Of course the biggest problem is few people with older faces like to have their photo showing the face older than 20 years ago...

Naomi: yes I seem to remember she lived in Paris with Richard Brooks at one time.

Kim: I can empathise with that:)

In my view...for what it's worth...the most beautiful actress I've ever had the pleasure of watching.

I hope TV run some of her old movies. I'll be there!!!!

Another beautiful woman, another gifted actress, gone. The Golden Days of Hollywood have, with a few exceptions, turned to tin.

Pat said...

Four.D: hopefully there will be a run of her movies now.

Charlie: the fifties were such a glamorous period when icons were not such a rarity. Cigarettes, lipstick, shoulder pads and silk stockings. And mystery.
