Frustration

I spent yesterday afternoon trying to capture the antics of a blackbird and robin alternating on the fat balls outside the dining room window but the little wretches were playing with me and would fly off as soon as I focussed. This morning I was roused by an insistent song thrush which inspired me to find the video below. I was so nearly there.

Frustrating, yes - but delightful too, I suggest... The post is, anyway!

I've given up trying to photograph the birds in my garden. They are much faster than me or my camera's shutter. Great Video.

We've been feeding mince pies to the local birds, they seem to like them! (Tesco Finest, they were on sale!)

Mapstew, it's the suet and fruit. I've got a 'tame' robin, he flies into the kitchen every morning when the door is open for the dogs, so that he can get his breakfast. I've never managed to snap him though, he seems very camera shy.

I so so wish I had film of this!!!

Last Christmas...the one before this last one I mean...

I stood in the garden with a stuffing ball.

(I have no idea why but vodka probably had some influence here)

Carol filmed me with it and I had a Magpie on my right wrist and a Robin on my left - no animosity at all.

They both pecked away for several minutes.

Sadly the film was lost several pc crashed ago....

I'm toying with strapping my flip video to a branch beside the feeder to see what I get.

In the snow I started putting things out on the ground too, and now I'm over-run with birds all the way up to wood pigeons and collared doves and down to wrens.

Eryl: Naomi - side bar - takes fantastic bird photos and I have a whole calendar of them.

Mapstew: I'll give that a go but i must get a bird table. Everything has to be suspended at present- difficult with mince pies.

St Jude: I think they just like to tease you.

Foru D: that must have been a great experience and at least you both saw it.

That black bird certainly was enjoying the apple!

What a sweet video this is....It is always so delightful to see Birds eating goodies they find or that are on Bushes and, in my case, on Cactus plants....I look forward to Spring. What is amazing about this video is watching it snow as that Blackbird continues chomping away...!

Anna: the video is a great idea. Good luck with it.

Judy:our blackbird looks enormous in comparison to the other birds.

Naomi: it's interesting to see what their preferences are. I'm trying them with some apple pie.

I await your own video - never too late to start a new career in flm making :)

Kim: but will those pesky birds take direction?

I too have given up trying to take pictures of all the birds in my garden... cheeky little devils they know when you are trying to take photos of them, they wink and move.
Plus I need a better camera.

The video was wonderful...
Thanks so much.

I agree its difficult to snap birdies. Opportunistically, by the time the camera is located, switched on, focussed they've gone.

I also dispatched some slightly tough mince pies birdwards during the snow.

Our little dog loves to chase the sparrows in the park, and two of them like to chase him back. They fly out of the tree and dive at his rear-end, like they're going to take a big peck at it.

It's great fun to see the three of them, but I don't have a camcorder to "make a movie."

Parsnip: I'm glad you enjoyed it;)

Rashbre: my Mr Kipling's apple pie has been ignored and MTL hasn't forgiven me for taking his last one. He says his need is greater than the birds.

Charlie: it must be fun to see the interaction with your own pet. We get neighbour's cats stalking them and I scream at them and they just stare blankly.
