Incommunicado

Incommunicado
Aside

This is going to be one of those streams of consciousness without the literacy of Ulysses.  Yesterday was horrid – partly.  I was in the midst of making a slightly indiscreet comment at John.g.’s when I was cut off in my prime.  The subject was coincidences; John had discovered that Keith (both on side bar) lived near where a tree crushed John’s car seven years ago.  They have now met and like each other which is great.

However back to my problem.  Every thing I tried was futile and it finally dawned on me that I was off line.  The battle I am having to resist New Blogger until I can be assured they won’t lose my hard earned camels and screw my site meter has made me somewhat paranoid so I tend to blame them for all hiccups.  It is all a bit déjà vu and last time I had to go back to square one which is disheartening.  I had pages of gobbledy gook, the whole blog was frozen and no-one could sort it.

I did the usual things – unplugged, prayed, went away and affected not to be bothered.  I repeated this two or three times with no success.  Then I discovered the phone wasn’t working.  It is a separate line to my computer so I couldn’t see the connection. No pun intended!  We tried to phone for help and neither of our mobiles would function wherever we phoned.

Fortunately we were having Valentine’s Day dinner treat a day late so off we went to our local Italian – Pinocchio’s.  It was a great relief to find the restaurant was also having problems and when we got back home – hey presto I had lift off!  What shook me was the extraordinary bereft feeling one had being cut off from fellow bloggers.  Not nice!  And can any of you boffins out there explain what could affect both ordinary phones and mobiles.  Aliens?

The food was good – bruscetta, Taglia al rose (red snapper fillet served with rose wine
sauce and shrimps.  I was going to follow it with panettone with custard but instead fell for a meringue concoction with black cherry compote, ice cream and cream.  It is now 6.15am and I don’t feel at all hungry.  Did you know that desserts are the perfect antidote for what it spells backwards?

Fingers crossed for a trouble free week-end.  I’m off for a cup of tea.

I'm drooling - your dinner sounds delicious. I'd better watch in case I short out my keyboard.

I know what you mean about that bubble of disquiet you get in your throat when you want to get into blogland and can't. It's a very odd thing I hadn't even considered when I started this lark. But what I think it means is that online friendships are real and do matter. We might be solitary tappers at our screens but we're humans and humans connect because we can't help it.

Hope today's a better day, Pat!

sam: I couldn't have put it better myself. At present I am missing Randall who can't leave a comment -possibly because I'm still Old Blogger.
Today is odd. Wide awake at 5am. Then back to bed with tea and slept till just now. Fortunately I planned to have an easy day today. As usually happens when I'm going out on the town the house looks as if a hurricane has swept through.

you should be able to keep your template intact -- camels and all -- if you make the switch to the new blogger. there's an option to keep your 'classic' template, which is what i'm still using. my 'old school' template is holding up just fine, in spite of all the modifications and additions i made to it; all my comments and archives survived the switch; and my site-meter doesn't seem confused at all.

i feel like now is my cue to start chanting join us! jooooooin us! all zombi-like, but, er... really? it's not so bad.

amy: you have convinced me and I'm going to take the plunge. Right now! Imagine my Gracie Field's voice as I sing bravely.
'Wish me luck as you wave me good bye,
With a cheer not a tear make it gay.
Give me a smile I can keep all the while,
In my heart whilst your away.
Till we meet once again you and I
Wish me luck as you wave me GOODBYE!' (Top C)

Ha! I'm back.

Pat, if you use the same template, all should be well when you switch. I had no problems.

BTW, the fish sounds good.

Cheers.

Randall: hurrah! I'm all geared up now to sign on the dotted line. Only thing is I can't find the form. I usually get it thrust down my throat four times a day and always when I publish a comment - but not now. Very irritating!

Father went to an Italian yesterday with his mate, they had Red Mullet, mussels and pesto sauce.

It is awful when it plays up isn't it? So frustrating!

I made the move to new blogger and haven't had any problems! Some things are even better!

Michele sent me to say hello.

Pat said...

Hi bob-kat: once the problems are sorted I'm sure i'll love it.

Hi John.g: i've been going all round the houses trying to publish comments and have finally sorted it but what a bleeding palaver. Tell your Dad I admire his taste.

What Sam said! What amy, r.sherman and bobcat said!

Well that was easy.

I will, Pat, when he wakes up! He wanted to watch Bullitt on Sky. It started at 8pm, he`s been asleep for 20 minutes, bless him.

I am really scared of the new blogger! At least you had a yummy dinner! I really do hope everything will work out for you this weekend.

I've just started blogging, so I never had the choice. Still mucking about trying to get a wossname, picture along the top, that doesn't look weak. Apart from that, can't complain.

What knocks out all the phones at the same time? Everyone calling their sweethearts on Valentine's Day. Perhaps.

Pat said...

Hi Mr F: It was the day after Valentine's Day and I thought land lines and mobiles were quite different. we'll never know:(

These things are meant to try us. Or something. In any case, I hope the move goes smoothly. I'm sure more heart attacks happen in front of computer screens than anywhere else. I have felt the vein in my forehead throbbing dangerously in apoplectic rage when I try to mess with Wordpress.

I wish I could help you but I'm just hopeless. It's best for all concerned to keep me well away from blog administration.

Good luck, hun!

Sam : I was over at yours whilst you were here. I am nothing if not dogged and with comments problems sorted it seems to be working and I can breathe again.
I'm pathetic to have made such a fuss!
I try to avoid links they make my eyes cross!

I hate it when the phones and DSL go out. It drives me nuts. I feel like I'm marooned on a desert island without desserts.

We've got a Pinocchio's in Brighton. I think it means Pine Nut you know.
Maybe because Pinocchio was carved out of pine nut wood.

Pat, I think that solar flares and sun spots can cause all kinds of communication snafus. Maybe that was the problem.

Pat said...

Judy: could be. Nobody else has come up with an explanation.

I'm just glad your blogger troubles haven't sidelined your site completely. As long as we can still read and share, it's a good thing.

Wordpress, here I come.

Aliens for sure! :)
Bata blogger shouldn't mess up yoir site meter, mine was fine, can swear to the camels though.
Glad i eaten before reading about your goodies.

Pat said...

That's kind of you Carmi.

Apprentice: the deed is done and tout est bien! The only difference is the comments thing but I'm getting used to it. Such a relief!

Pat, thanks for the visit. That pool is not the exact place where the cherry blossoms are, but it is close by. The cherry blossoms are near the Lincoln Monument, I think.

Thanks Judy. the picture was a gift from my in-laws when they were working in Washington. I must have left it with my first husband. Goodness knows where it is now.
