14th January 2007

14th January 2007

A year ago today I started PAST IMPERFECT with a great deal of trepidation.  Thank you for your interest, help and encouragement which has made the journey so far, a pleasure, and I hope to carry on until I’m done.

Say what you will, and scratch my heart to find
The roots of last year’s roses in my breast;
I am as surely riper in my mind
As if the fruit stood in the stalls confessed.
Laugh at the unshed leaf, say what you will.
Call me in all things what I was before,
A flutterer in the wind, a woman still;
I tell you I am what I was and more.
My branches weigh me down, frost cleans the air,
My sky is black with small birds bearing south;
Say what you will, confuse me with fine care,
Put by my word as but an April truth-
Autumn is no less on me that a rose
Hugs the brown bough and sighs before it goes.

CONGRATULATIONS, Pat! I am so glad you started the blog, because it has brought me a lot of pleasure and learning throughout the year. Please keep it up, okay?

My 2 yr. blogiversary comes up Tues. I can hardly believe it.

Goodness me, is that a year already? Hearty congratulations. At this rate I reckon it'll take you another few years to get the story done, well from a purely selfish viewpoint that's fine by me because it means I have lots of lovely reading to look forward to!

Zinnia: I reckon it's taken a year to do 22/23 years and I'm no spring chicken so... No it's too early in the morning to work it out. Quite a while I'd say!

Happy Blogday, Pat. I'm sorry I missed this but my blogging time has been sort of scattershot lately: 5 mins here, 5 there, that sort of thing.

That is some beautiful verse there, truly beautiful. You've inspired me to go and Google Edna St Vincent Millay.

I'm so glad you're doing your memoirs here in blogland - although there is definitely a book in there. I love it here. I love your voice and your sensibility; I love the evocation of another time, I love your take on contemporary culture and the wisdom in your observations. I love your verve and your sense of humour and the way I feel when I come to Past Imperfect.

You remind me a lot of my granny and that is some of the highest praise I know how to give.

Looking forward to another year here with you.

I'll raise a wee kir to you tonight, darling. (You should never have started me and Docsy off on that stuff you know. It's terrible bad for the head the next day, I've discovered, but so gooooooood and goes down oh so easily).

x

sam: you say the sweetest things. I'm glad you like the poetry. I think you - like me - find it life enhancing. My sister in New York is 5 hours behind us. I believe you are 10 so my evening snifter is sadly over and only my 4 pieces of chocolate to come before bedtime. It' a hard life.
