Panic stations!

Panic stations!

There’s something to be said for the enervating heat.  It caused me to leave some bedroom doors open and as I wandered past Lottie’s room about 7.30 this am something made me go inside and there was the hot water tap gushing forth – unstoppable.

The bad news is I changed to a water meter a month ago.  The good news is I have a lovely new plumber just ten minutes away.  Totally unaware of what time it was I phoned his mobile and eureka – he arrived with a nice hint of after shave.

As before it was the rotted rubber washer - probably been there since the twenties and at least I now know how to turn the cold water into the hot boiler off now.  MTL had left labels in the airing cupboard, but I hadn’t noticed them.

An extra bonus my plumber has been having problems with a new computer and Vista and gave me the number of his excellent computer wiz kid.

Here’s hoping for a peaceful rest of Monday – for all of us.

Just came on here, my dear....How wonderful that you have a Plumber so close by....And a good one, at that. Good Plumbers are hard to come by--at least here in L.A.....
It's just on the edge of Monday here, and I haven'r been to sleep yet---But I will be nodding off, fairly soon....!
Hope the rest of your day is stress free, dear Pat.....!

I wonder how long it had been running... or how long it would have run for if you hadn't had the door open?

Naomi: thank you - pleasant dreams.

AndrewM: just DON'T!

Those rubber washers are always going... I may learn how to change them myself.

Scarlet : one wonders if one shouldn't get them all changed.
These are examples of my new responsibilities I don't enjoy.
'Men's work' in my opinion.

In my experience, don't fix what ain't broke... the old washers are probably more robust than the new ones!
Keep an eye on them though.

Water problems always frustrate me. I have learned where the main turn off is so if I run into any problems I can at lest stop the water till my handyman comes.
Lucky you with your plumber and help with the computer too !

cheers, parsnip

Dear Pat,
Peaceful can turn into uneventful, and I don't think that would altogether suit you - doesn't suit us much - well not for long, although a day or two in the workshop can be welcome.

Two birds with one stone, that's the way to do it Pat.

This sounds like our old home, everything goes bad because pipes are old. The plumber who used to work for my parents - he's gotten so big-shot, he doesn't come here for small jobs any more.

A plumber who goes to work immediately, with a nice hint of aftershave, is a hero.

i remember the plumbing nightmares i had in my little 1926 bungalow - but i never found a plumbing company upon whom i could well depend -

the little ones are with me during the days now and this morning we've already been out and about to breakfast and the park and the library - with tons of both books and movies - heat warnings in effect here but there's a wonderful breeze and doesn't feel nearly like the hot day it's supposed to be - so a good thing -

peace to you, pat... ;)

But was the aftershave to cover up the fact he didn't have time to wash! Ha. No a good plumber that lives locally, with or without the aftershave is a blessing!

What an unusually happy plumbing story...... plus the nice hint of after shave (you noticing such things does give your blog quite an elevated quality :-) ).

A good plumber close by …what a dream! We have had a leak in our kitchen sink – 5 plumbers later the leak is fixed but the new faucet just broke…

Parsnip: I think every house should have a book that goes with the deeds and tells the householder where vital things like the turn off tap are.

Mike and Ann: you are probably right but I don't want any more panics.

Lom: thank you:) Incidentally we seem to have lost our black and white blackbird.

GG: he also gave me the name of his computer expert:)

Gypsy: little ones are lovely but they can be exhausting. Take it easy.

Joey: I'd stake my life it was shower plus aftershave.

Gadjo: I have to tell it as I see it. Doesn't please everybody.

Vagabonde: poor you. Plumbing seems to be full of horror stories.

Hope the rest of the week has been a bit more expected.

We had the switch to a meter here too and then a plumbing drama. I'm still wondering who pays for the extra water.
