Just in Time

The Hertfordshire branch of the family are due before lunch and fortuitously the new kitchen chairs have arrrived. The ones on which I am NEVER going to stand. Honest Injun!

Very nice! I love that table too.

I think the flowers make the better centrepiece ;-) So glad to hear you're planning to SIT on these chairs, Pat! They look very harmonious in your lovely kitchen.

I need to call my wife to make sure ours is still at home. It's the exact same set.

BTW, that wood will weather nicely over the years and only get better looking.

Cheers.

They look nice and sturdy, but, yes, still not for standing on. I think this might be the first time I've seen your kitchen, it's lovely.

This makes me laugh. I remember when my mother stood on the table at my younger sister's wedding. It was hysterical, because she is such a reserved, elegant lady. But what fun she had. Everyone should stand on tables - or a chair - every now and then (carefully!). It gives one a whole different perspective.

Love, love, love you bright kitchen. The table and chairs are perfect on that beautiful floor and the cabinets are wonderful. I have a feeling you are probably a joyful and talented cook:)

Mapstew: we'll definitely have an arse check before anyone is allowed to sit down.

Judy: the table is 25 years old - they blend quite nicely I think.

Queenie: even MTL is a little more enthusiastic now he's seen them.

Randall: I always suspected you had good taste;)

Eryl I wanted sturdy without being cumbersome as one is constantly moving them. Thank you:)

Jayne : sadly I've given up scaling mountains, tables and chairs - by popular request, and direct orders from the family.

Who's going to sit on the chair on the table? Do they have long arms or long cutlery?

We need to know!

Pat said...

Queenie: you say my lovely kitchen but it's not as big as yours:)

Granny Annie: I haven't the heart to disillusion you but I'm fond of our kitchen - well worn as it is.

John G: anyone who is cheeky and getting above themselves.

You should make someone sit on top of the table, as in the first photo. It'd be like dinner and a show.

The chairs look like they were made for your table, very nice.

Love the chairs. And table, too.

Oh, those are so nice Pat....! And sturdy looking too--JUST FOR SITTING, Missy....(lol).
Seriously, they look wonderful and I hope and pray you never stand on any one of them for any reason...!

Have a great time with your family!

What a charming kitchen!

Waitaminute, were you standing on a chair which was on top of a table?

I ask because I've heard of one grandmother here who's done that.

Pat said...

GB: I know I'll do the scene from cabaret. Pass the black fish nets Norman.

Pat said...

Parsnip and Sheri: thank you

Naomi: never fear - I've moved my small steps (quite safe) into the scullery so they are close at hand should I need a top cupboard.

GG: no no not I! I'm far too sensible:)

Patty Pi Pi... I'm playing a new game this month. It's called 'Dares'. I'm simply daring people to do stuff.

Patty... I dare you... to stand on one leg. On the chair. On the table.

Post photographic evidence upon successful completion of your dare.

Welcome to the game!

Flowers... pffft! One leg - chair - table!

Oh Pat we have a table like that, we had ours built years ago, (it took me 12 months to save for it). I scrubed all the wax off ours so that I could chop on it.

You've certainly been busy since my last 'read' (Jan 14th).
Love the chairs - and the rest of your kitchen - it's so clean and fresh but at the same time cosy and homely.

Ms Scarlet said...

The cards say that if you stand on one of the chairs then you will have an unfortunate incident with a jar of marmalade by Wednesday.
They advise you to keep your feet on the floor!

Shane: and I thought you were my friend. MTL dares you to stand on one leg in the middle of the M6 but I don't think he means it;)

LOM: I can't believe you did that.
You can see the scars on my table where MTL does things and I have to cover it when entertaining - unless it's family. Naughty LOM!

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that chairs can be adapted for other uses.

- steps
- temporary storage areas
- bag emptying areas
- intermediate filing
- Amplifier stands
- alternative tripods

But I've never considered them for table decorations.

Pat said...

Sandy: I'm glad you like it. Cleaning the kitchen is my least favourite job but now we have our lovely help Sheila I can relax and enjoy it.

Scarlet: thanks for the warning. I shall pay heed.

Rashbre: you and my husband both :)

Love this and all the comments too.

Now you should get some pine kitchen units to match the table and chairs ready for when I come to dinner next month!

Pat said...

Maggie: yes I like it when people drop in and chew the fat. Speaking of which my grandson has just cooked the most amazing roast lamb for us. We'll miss him tomorrow.

Keith: I had the pine kitchen units in my last home. This pine is just incidental and the rest is mainly white.
I would be nervous of cooking for such a perfectionist as yourself:)

Ours is covered in knife marks and a ring where I put a hot pan down! It's a farm house scrub top now, well that's what I tell everyone. I will sort it out this year.

Macy said...

Great idea Pat! Sit everyone in the kitchen, where they can help with the washing up!

Pat said...

Macy: it certainly works. I gave up on dish washers some years ago and apparently I'm the only person in the whole world who still has a washing up bowl, but it seems green to me. The family hardly allow me to wash up but I insist that if they cooked the meal - which they often do - I wash up.

lom said...

I have a bowl, no dishwasher in our house, unless you count hubby

Pat said...

Lom: you're my kind of gal!

Unknown said...

Oh, I love the chairs! I've been wanting to get myself a two seater breakfast nook set of a similar design for some time. Hopefully I'll have it by March :)

Nea said...

I dare you not to play Shane's game!

I also have a bowl and use it, it's got to be green. If given the choice I'd much rather wash up than make the food. This weekend I swapped with the girls, one made lunch, the other supper and I hoovered their rooms and washed up. Definitely something I'm going to try and turn into a routine.

My WV is "crashe" I take it as a warning as to what will happen if you attempt any more chair and table top scaling.

Pat said...

Luna: I must say each time I go in the kitchen I enjoy looking at them after the old bedraggled ones. I hope you make it by March.

Nea: dare accepted. Most of the time I find washing up soothing and compared to MTL I do it in half the time. I prefer to do it at least once a day, rather than anyone else, because I wipe everything down at the same time.
It's good for the girls to have a grounding in domesticity . I did it with the boys with great effect on one and no effect on the other.
