Good news, bot for how long?

John.G: now don't rain on my parade. I need to look on the bright side. Sometimes I think the male species teeters towards doom and gloom and war and woe.
But I'm still fond of most to them.

I think she's right to worry about traveling, if she wants to make a difference in Burma. Once she's gone, the junta can keep her out and minimize or eliminate her influence on her followers. Still it's a good step.

BTW, I love Carol Burnett and need to read her memoir.

Cheers.

I'd want to run, run, run from Burma / Myanmar. I'm such a coward. I feel sad whenever I remember her husband died while she was locked up.

This is news for me, I didn't know she's been released.

GG: hot news - today!

Finally! She has been deprived of her freedom and her family for nearly all of my married life. I, too, find it hard to believe, but it is fantastic news. Long may she remain free.

It was True North by Kimberley Kafka (descendant of Franz). Very different to Marian Keyes, but still a good read. If you enjoyed The Brightest Star, then you might enjoy Keyes other books too, her wicked sense of humour comes through in all of them.

Glad to hear things are looking up.

I was really surprised to see this happen. I honestly didn't think they'd EVER let her go. Hope it lasts.

Having a country run by the military is always a terrible idea.

Nea: thank you for the book info and good idea to order another Marion Keyes - I should have thought of that. Keep me going for a while:)

UB: as someone pointed out - there are a least 2000 other people imprisoned there under much worse conditions, and although she is rightly treading carefully just now she will want to do something about it.
