Smartening up.

Today I await the arrival of my new sofa. All I have is a square of material to remind me of what I chose. I’m hoping it blends in and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. I would like to hang on to the old one but four sofas is one too many – even for this house. At least my old one is going to someone who needs one.

With the accompanying disruption and crashing computers I’m behind. At least once a week I try to visit my side bar friends so forgive me if I’m late. I’m finding that a few now have been inactive for quite a while so - in the interests of efficiency I’m going to move them to ‘resting ‘ in the hope they start up again before too long. I still love you.

New furniture always gives a house ... and the spirits ... a lift. We really need a new livingroom suite, so will have to make an effort to get out shopping for one soon. Are such things a joint decision in your house, or do you pull rank? I see eyes glaze over and mild terror set in when I ask for input here, so I'm the furniture chooser. He's lucky that my decorating tastes don't run to really girly and frou frou.;) I hope that your new piece is as you remember it from the showroom!

I will keep my fingers crossed for you and the NEW Sofa, my dear---but I have a feeling that you chose well....! I must admit a little patch of material could give one some doubts---too bad they cannot give you a larger piece---after all, a Sofa is a big decision...!

Eleanor: I get the same glaze and terror so I have to be really sure I know what I want and have the stamina to stick with it. It has arrived and I'm pleased.
It's bespoke so I chose the shape from the internet - did endless measuring and sent for the scrap of material.

Naomi: I'm happy with it. As you can see from the comment to Eleanor I had to use my imagination and did it all from home. Maybe I'll take a shot of it whilst it is still pristine.

John.g: I haven't properly reclined on it yet. Will let you know.

We have sentimental attachment to the furniture here...they all have some story / memory attached. So we re-cover them every now and then. I'd love to buy a lazee-boy though, I really hate the Berbice chair...planter's chair [from plantation days].

GG: I have to do some googling:)

That reminds me, I need to visit the Ikea website and see whether they have any similar couch-covers as the ones we have now. The ones we have are a lovely colour, but stains don't come out of the fabric like Ikea said they would. And when we wanted to replace the covers it turned out Ikea had discontinued this particular colour. So annoying!

I hope your new couch looks lovely!

New furniture is always nice! It makes a room feel fresh again. I'm glad it turned out well... although you still have to tell us the results of your recline.

As long as you can get your new sofa through the front door Pat. A lot of sofas get returned because they don't!

Wontlet: that is a nuisance - one spends a lot of time settling on a colour. I'm happy with the new sofa - smartens us up somewhat but I shall miss the old one.

Ponita: I had my first nap on it yesterday and it is much easier to arise from.

Macy: Laura Ashley check first - asking if refuse collection vans get up the lane and we have French doors in the family room. The difficulty was MTL and I removing the old one out through the hall into the drawing room and into the sun room where it can be collected through the French doors.
It looked impossible but it's amazing what tilting can do. Neither of us are supposed to lift:)

No need visiting my place. I've been extraordinarily busy and haven't had time to post.

Enjoy the sofa, though!

Cheers.

I didn't realize how much you could spend on a sofa until I went shopping for one. It's incredible! You could, literally, drop thousands. Is my unsophisticated side showing?

Randall: I pop in any way just to make sure you haven't run away. There aren't many of us left;)

UB: I'm totally out of the swim but I'm quite proud that with this I saved £500 and got free delivery.

Oh dear, suddenly my old sofa looks a bit sad and flat - what a treat to be getting a new one - I hope it brings you years of sitting comfortably!

Sharon: trouble is every time I put my feet up on it I'm off - asleep.

I'm not resting - I'm still blogging. Just not so often.

You can never have too many sofas.

Daphne: I still follow you and get you on my reader Dashboard. I'll emend it when I can face the fiddling.
