A bit of rough with the smooth.

It’s been a difficult few weeks since MTl completed the chemo. We were so grateful that the side effects had not erupted and then at the end they came along to bite us in the bum. We are on holiday next week and I’m sure a change of scene will have the desired effect, for both of us. It’s actually a year since we had a break.

‘But surely you have had the odd week-end away,’ said #1 son.

’Only as far as the hospital’, I told him.

Won’t it be lovely if the good weather lasts and we can watch the sun sparkling on the bobbing boats in the Torridge estuary? Camera, recharger and a spare memory - I must remember to take. Although the cottage at Fremington was booked up, the one we have chosen is facing the estuary in Instow and there are a number of good eating places in walking distance – on the flat, so OK for MTL. The price was a bit of a shock but hopefully it will be worth it.

Amusing to see my grand-daughter has inherited my and my mother’s gene for packing for any eventuality. Mum was hopeless, I’m getting better but I still use wads of tissue paper. What with MTL’s polythene bags and my tissue you can see why the Australians named us The Rustlers.

Just had a quick trip to the dentist – a cap came off yesterday and this morning my mobile had a bare face although it seemed to be working. Calling in at the local mobile place I was shown a Doro which I loved the feel of. Just as I was about to pay my old Nokia’s face came back. So the disgruntled man who was assisting me became even more disgruntled when I decide to hang on until after the holiday.

Keep the faith and see you all when we return.xoxox

Your holiday spot looks lovely. Intriguing that your phone sparked back at the thought of being replaced. I used to use nokias and they always seemed remarkably robust and also good at finding signals even in difficult places.

Enjoy your break!

Rashbre: it is very old. Of late I've been carrying it around with me which may have upset it.
Thank you - I can't wait:)

When I was a child, we always had Rose of Torridge butter (for the table, that is, Anchor for cooking) and I thought it was a beautiful name. Hope you have a lovely time and that anxieties settle down.

Savannah: thank you and I shall look forward to hearing about your adventures when we return.xoxoxoxoxoxo
sxarlet: thanks for the smile - you get prettier all the time;)

Randall: we'll do our best:)

Z: what a lovely name - Rose of Torridge. Good job you weren't around earlier:)
Thank you - I really try to control the ------- anxieties.

Have a lovely holiday. Speaking of the weather, the rains have just hit us here. We need it though, after the scorching summer :-)

Have a wonderful time, it looks gorgeous. I do like to see boats bobbing.

I will have to google Doro as I've not heard of such a thing; it's always an education coming over here. I have an ancient Nokia too, and although I rarely use it I'd hate to have to replace it with a different brand, I can't even work out how to answer Stevie's which looks much more like a television than a phone.

CC: we also are in a drought situation and I fear for my flowers whilst I'm away. Midnight showers would be good.

Eryl: the Doro was almost love at first sight. I googled too and it looks like the 410 black GSM £99.99. In the shop it was £90 so I may brave Mr Charming again. See you:)

Ponita: thank you. I'm full of hope:)

Have a good holiday Pat. North Devon counts as "Abroad" in my book. Got to be hot and sunny by definition!

Yep have a lovely time! Cottage Holidays are the very best.

Although you must check out the Midland Hotel in Morecambe....

I hope you're having a wonderful time as I write! The small irritations can get a person down...add to that, illness. And taking care of an ill person.

Take deep breaths, sleep, unwind.

I hope you and your husband have a great holiday and a chance to relax. And I, for one, am very impressed that you pack with loads of tissue paper.

Have a lovely break!

What you had with your phone we had with own TV once. It wouldn't work anymore, but right before we took it in for repairs we gave it once final try and it suddenly started working again (and has been working perfectly ever since).

I believe I'm too late to wish you a bon voyave so, welcome home. I had to Google Map Torridge Estuary. A very nice looking dot on the map.

Snap! I have to have my cap replaced on Tuseday, so glad to hear your hubby is doing well and you had a nice break.

We had bad news at the weekend father-in-laws has now gone into his bones.

I've spent a lot of time in that area, Pat, as must you two or you wouldn't be going back. Have a wonderful time, put everything into a compartment somewhere behind the forefront of the mind, and enjoy each other, the view, and the food.

Macy: there was a lot of sun, warmth, cold, rain and heavy showers. Just typical June weather really;)

Rog: cottages are our favourites now.
I think I stayed at that hotel years ago on a trip to meet Wilfred Pickles. What a disaster that was:)

GG: thank you dear - it worked;)

Mary: thank you. I still have some of my mother's original - yellowing with age now;)

Marjolein: it's great when that happens;)

UB: I would seriously consider retiring there but I've been retired for years.

Lom: so sorry for your loss.

Blazing: excellent advice- and it worked. Thank you.

Naomi; once I've made some headway with the unpacking and laundry I'll be over;)

Sewa: welcome and thank you.

We are looking to you guys to set the prefect example of life after chemo. This may be our last eight days of chemo and radiation and we are so hopeful. Lots of travel plans await us for the future. Happy, happy for you that it's over.
