After the Wedding

We decided to go over Exmoor to the Blue Boar aka The Sandpiper. The boys hadn't been and after A checked his bible ( Real Ale Guide) we set off. For the first time in living memory we saw it minus rain. We had the usual excellent lunch, I tried the smaller portion and still had two eggs with my ham and chips. after a longish lunch I wanted to see the church so we crossed the road - past the car park and entered the church grounds

The entrance - I wonder how old these yews are?

Looking back at the pub. A got a much better shot but can't send it from the office.

I wandered off behind the church and was rewarded. That's the sea and an inviting path which - alas - I didn't take.

Looking the other way you can see Lynmouth through the mist. In the fifities there was a deluge and houses and their occupants were swept from Lynton - the town above - down into the sea. A terrifying time.

Another inviting path.

The ewe wouldn't let me get near her lambs.

Inside the church are signs of a need for restoration. ..

But fresh flowers always help.

Looking up towards the altar

And back down the aisle - just before I overbalanced and fell backward. Fortunately I was alone so didn't feel quite so foolish:)

Is it possible to just set off hiking down one of those trails. One would think there would be all sorts of people doing just that.

Cheers.

Savannah: I wrote more fully about it in the archives but my files and folders are in a state and it is difficult to isolate without going back to 2006.

Ponita and Queenie: thank you I'm fine - just sank slowly onto the altar step. Only my pride dented.

John.g: I had a SMALL glass of wine because a large one is too large. One's balance doesn't improve with age so I always have my hand on the banister when using the stairs.

Randall: there are dozens of paths/trails along that coast line. The whole area is a mass of footpaths. There were a lot of walkers in the pub.
Years ago MTL and I walked part of the SW coast path - starting in Minehead and got as far as here - Countisbury.

Esmoor is so beautiful. We holidayed (that doesn't look right) there several times when I was a kid. Not been back for years

Lom: the area is a comfort when life is tiresome.

Judy: only my pride!

Glad you weren't hurt when you fell. I'm pleased you were able to pick yourself up if you were alone. I'm finding it hard to get up once I'm down. (Not that I keep falling over mind!)

That is a BEAUTIFUL Church, Pat...but I can see it really needs some help. That is sad, isn't it? I love that you all had a Celebration Lunch after The Wedding....! What fun!

I could walk in a place like that for hours, it's so beautiful...then I'd go home for tea and toast.

My goodness, after all that hiking outdoors, look where you fell. Thank goodness you're not hurt.

Is it Exmoor where the panther is?

Sandy: it was fairly easy to arise as I landed in a sitting position.

Scarlet: you'd always be welcome in Minehead:)

Naomi: we had champagne on ice but the boys didn't fancy it!!!
My son prefers beer and grand-son cider.
Just been over to see the lovely post and Sweetie.

GG: as I was explaining to my niece yesterday: seated one often feels forty and then comes down to earth as one leaps up. Such a bore:)
