Spring will come. Promise!

Nothing is so beautiful as spring-
When weeds, in wheels, shoot long and lovely and lush;
Thrush's eggs look little low heavens, and thrush
Through the echoing timber does so rinse and wring
The ear, it strikes like lightnings to hear him sing;

Gerard Manley Hopkins 1844-1889

A hint of what's to come.

But in this fallow period the hedges don't grow and I can see the church.

and a nearby hill.

Our new listing bird station . I blame the pigeons:)

I have two of those bird stations and both list alarmingly. A combination of the weight of the fat balls and the weight of the woodpigeons jumping up and down on them. I've also had to secure the wire trays because the woodpigeons keep tipping them over.

Kevin: that's a comfort. I'll tell MTL to cheer him up:)

I know a big strong man who will come around with his concrete mix and trusty shovel if required.

I've already got things growing!...er..but that's in my loft so we won't go there...;-)

Hey! No fair! I like pigeons!

Spring. Bah. Don't believe in it today - the snowiest day of the year so far in these parts. Brrr. I feel a hot toddy coming on!

Jimmy: promises promises:)

Four.D: you haven't! Pigeons? I've never tried one.

Queenie: well that has to be a good thing. Sadly I've had my slurp of the day or I'd join you. Cheers!

Sorry, dear. I'm still somewhat shaken by the "Gerard Manley Hopkins 1844-1889," above the first photo. Is he entombed in that smallish pot?

Questioningly yours,

Can't wait for Spring as I'm all eager to try again at growing veg. . .

Spring has sprung in these parts, thanks to some much-needed rain. Our plum tree has new buds, and we have our fingers crossed that a cold night won't kill them.

And I dislike fat pigeons, even though we nursed one with a bad wing back to health.

New pair of woodpigeons in the tree outside our living room window. It's definitely coming, and not a moment too soon.

We have several inches of snow, so this is a lovely reminder of what the weather is meant to be like.

Randall: I so love it when comments make me laugh. Thank you;)

Sandy: that's a thrill that's passed me by:) But I love eating them.

Charlie: I'll cross everything too.
Nursing pigeons - I knew you were an old softie.

Blazing: these pigeons are getting everywhere.

Madame D: sorry I forget there is still snow in Britain. Move to the SW like Scarlett did;)

Unfortunately Spring is several weeks later up here in Scotland :(

Pat said...

Kim: but apart from the midges Scotland has wonderful attributes.

Lovely views from your home.
No pigeons were I live but lots of other birds and my Cactus Wrens are as greedy and cheeky as your pigeons I bet.

Nothing is growing in our garden, I am ready for spring now.

Ah, I can never get enough Hopkins - I generally assume that I'm alone in this so it's always a nice surprise to find that I'm not :-)

We're a couple of weeks behind you over here: our crocuses and irises have been happily poking themselves through the snow and the first tulips are now being to show.

You have the most wonderful Bird Feeders Pat....
Spring WILL Come, I know...but not soon enough for all of you who keep having snow, and more snow...!

Pat said...

Gadjo : glad you like GMH.
Tulips sound like you are earlier - apart from the snow.

Naomi: it's bitter again:(

Pat said...

LOM; seems further away than ever today:(

Naomi: but Jimmy is right - they need cementing in.

Parsnip: cactus wrens sound sweet. I hope they are smaller than pigeons.

Pigeons are going to take over, you mark my words. They're everywhere here too.

GG: pigeons and sea gulls - menaces all!
