Commercial Nonsense?

From the personal Vintage Valentine collection of Barbara Crews.

This is from me for anyone whose partner thinks Valentines are expensive, commercial nonsense but has secretly hoped for one. I've been in your shoes.

Fortunately it's Meg's birthday on the 14th of Feb, which means we can forget Valentine's day and Maggie and I are free to focus on our love for each other on the other 364 days of the year instead :)

Cloud Cutter: then it was worth while:)

Kim: Ha ha! I already knew that. Wait and see!

The EMBLOS told me I needn't bother with a card, flowers or what-not. Fortunately, I'm not stupid enough to believe her.

Cheers.

Randall: that's my boy!

What a sweet Valentine. . .
I had several old ones that my Mum gave me when I was young and I loved and saved them but lost them in the fire... This reminds me of them, Thanks :)
I think sometimes this day becomes a commercial mess but a sweet card and note is always welcome !

Parsnip; what a pity. The old ones are charming.

That is a nice one, much nicer than the ones you see now

Wild red roses, breakfast in bed... a cuddle by the fireside the neet. Love is never expensive if you look at what you have about you.

Valentine's Day needn't be expensive, just a day spending more time together and paying more attention to each other.

It appears that Q isn't going off to his Quacker meeting today, so that's nice.

Pat said...

LOM: isn't it though?

Jimmy: 'wild red roses' - a lovely phrase which conjures up such romantic images.

Zed: yes that's the right sort of gift. I'm puzzled by Quacker meeting
and picture lots of men making Donald Duck noises.

Mary Witzl said...

I've just read Zed's comment and your response to it, and I'm laughing so hard I can't remember what I was going to write. I like the thought Daisy duck in a prim little headscarf and grey Quaker dress...

And Happy Valentine's Day!

Pat said...

Mary: thank you and the same to you. Nice to see you. The funniest things are often unintentional I find:)

M. DeFarge made me lunch so that I could study undisturbed. That's almost as good as a card.

Pat said...

Madame D: better! You can't eat a card;)

The card is really pretty and I love the colours.

Charlie said...

Martha and I celebrate Valentines Day every day and, like Christmas, give each other little presents year round, so we don't bother with the "official" dates.

And no, I am not a cheapskate.

Pat said...

Eryl: the combination of colours is unusual but it works doesn't it.

Charlie: that's the way to do it. The secret is to do whatever makes your partner happy. It's sad when it isn't the same for both partners.
I would never ever think you could possibly be a cheap skate. I can spot 'em a mile off;)

Thanks, Pat. I'm not in that situation, but mr. kenju can't get out to get one without me - so I do without.

It's true, it's easy to criticise Valentine's Day as commercial trickery, but haven't he all at sone time hoped for a card and never got one?

How Lovely, Pat....And I have a dear old fashioned Balentine on my Blog, too...Along with a 'out and about in L.A. pictures tour'

Hope you had a beautiful Valentines day, my dear....! It was quiet here, but that was just fine with me....!

Lovely little card you show. Home-made cards can also work rather well.

Around our way the cards still have a question mark instead of a signature, of course.

Pat said...

Judy: I wasn't at all sure I'd get one this year as although he can go out alone some shops are too far from the car park. However I was not disappointed.

Gadjo: right on!

Naomi: thank you and I enjoyed your lovely post.

Rashbre: MTL never signs his and I'm left guessing who it can be:)
Home made cards have to be the best.

Valentines Day originates from St Valentino - I think he was Spanish or some'at.

Anyroad, he got martyred for some'at and became a Saint.

The Victorians kicked off Valentines Day and it's hung about to this day.

I'm a clever little bugger when I want to be eh?

(I never went near Google by the way...I already knew this)

I'm lying a wee bit...

I did know some of this...I asked Caz to confirm it...

....;-)

Pat said...

Four.D: I knew that of course - just forgotten it:)

I prefer kindness, gentleness, being together, going for a walk, listening to music, sitting by the sea.

Pat said...

GG: me too but I'd like the card and chocolates as well - just to show willing:)
