UNCLE ERNEST'S WEDDING

Next
to Uncle Bill, Ernest was my favourite - he was such a gentle man. The two men on his left are also Dad's brothers. There were six boys and one girl, who died young. The four eldest all served in the army in WW1 and all survived but Ernest was gassed and only Dad lived to a good age. Dad ran away in 1918 to join up - under-age - and the other Gran - his mother, brought him back. The youngest boy served in WW2 along with his cousins. Posted by Picasa

GU: No alas. It's the sort of thing that I know I'd lose the plot on. If that makes sense. any long unravelling would unravel me. Short attention span and it gets worse the older I get.

Hi. It's great that you're doing this both for yourself and your children, and grandchildren. Too many of us forget to write this stuff down, and then it's lost. This is especially true with photos.

Cheers.

Hi Randall: most of it is in my head - which is odd, considering I am empty headed.

This is so much more than a lot of families have. I'm enjoying your family pictorial history - keep up the good work. ec

Not empty headed. BTW, I mentioned the post to the EMBLOS, and she related the story of her paternal grandfather who enlisted in the Kaiser's army in late WWI. He was 17, but his parents let him go. He missed the train to the front and by the time he got there, the war was over.

See, you bring back memories for the Germans, too.

Cheers.

This stopped me: "Ernest was gassed..." simple and sad, it says a whole lot.

GG: I often wonder if the war was the reason that three of the brothers were childless.
