Inspired by Leah Simone Namour's beautiful necklace on Face Book which she made from a piece of glass from Brighton beach and crochet wire- I dug out the above. MTL and I found the green stone on Aphrodite's beach in Cyprus. Not as gifted as Leah I took it to our jeweller and asked him to mount it so I could wear it on a chain. He looked quite horrified and insisted it was ' just a piece of glass Mrs Mackay.' No imagination:)
Wouldn't it be fun if they were both part of the same bottle?
In some of Maggie's earlier artworks she embedded pieces of sea glass. She's not done it for a while, but we do have a few jars full, as for a couple of years, every time we went to the beach, we would seek it out :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE that you did that, Pat! It is so very pretty.....Sometimes all that Jewelers can see is the obvious----If it isn't a "real" gem...They just don't get it. And that is really too bad, cause, that is their loss, and ultimately the loss o their customers.

What a terrific color! Green is my favorite and I would wear that. Anyone who calls himself a jeweler should have more vision that that!
ReplyDeleteI have lots of trinkets from the beach, mainly pebbles... maybe I should think about doing something with them... but they look quite pretty stacked on the window sill.

I have a favorite small arrowhead from Ron's collection. It was our plan to have it put into a necklace. You have inspired me to go ahead and get that done. Your necklace is beautiful.

ReplyDeleteJudy: I love green too and was only thinking I wish I still had a bright green jacket I had a few decades ago. I used to war it with a yellow shirt and felt just like a daffodil:)

My grandmother had one of my father's baby teeth set in a ring. I think the glass is pretty and, with the memories it inspires, a jolly good idea.
