New York New York!

Angus at Dawn:-   "I'm heading back to Staten from downtown Manhattan, wind blows so hard, I'm trying to keep my hay on."

I think 'hay' is a typo.  Anyone's guess but what a stunning city

  1. If he was on the ferry, he does mean hat. It is very windy on the water, and it is the best vantage point for seeing NYC. The other good one is atop the Empire State Building.

  5. What a BEAUTIFUL Photo this is.....New York Is Stunning! I'm sure Angus means HAT, don't you think?

My Mother and Grandmother are buried on Staten Island, and as a young singer I played a lot of small nightclubs, and I worked on Staten Island many times....The Ferry is also a great way to see The Statue of Liberty, too.....It's years and years since I have been there.

  6. Judy: yes I think you are right.

Mage: he has recently learned to be sensible about sun protection so I'm fairly sure it would be hat.

Parsnip: I once went there immediately after Vermont and was dreading being in a city but was completely won over.

Vagabonde: it is like a work of art.

  9. The view of Manhattan from the Staten Island ferry is stunning. If I'm in New York it's one of my favourite tourist trips. I can remember you have to run around the terminal to get back on the same boat again at the Staten Island end.

When I first did it, I think it cost 25c or 50c but nowadays I think its free. Must be one of the best value sightseeing hour round trips on the world.

  15. GG: belated birthday greetings to Mum. She's but a girl!

Mage and ALW: poetic licence - Hay it is:)
I once - staying with sister in Vermont was dreading going back to the city but N.Y. won me over. Mind you Fonteyn and Nuryev might have had something to do with it and the odd gallery and museum.

  16. Lovely photo.
I remember the ferry and the view on a very cold day in February. It was many years ago (before 9/11) and we also went up one of the Twin Towers.
