Another classic beauty. Perhaps I'm getting too old, but nothing compares to the days when beautiful women left something to the imagination. Dare I say, the allure was a 100 fold more enticing than the "show what you've got to everyone and his/her cat" attitude that seems to exist now.
I had heard that a long time ago--and it was said, that THAT was what broke up her marriage to Richard Brooks, but I honestly don't know that this is a fact. One thing is for sure: She was a truly lovely and talented actress.
Four.D: hopefully there will be a run of her movies now.
Charlie: the fifties were such a glamorous period when icons were not such a rarity. Cigarettes, lipstick, shoulder pads and silk stockings. And mystery.
This is how I remember her too: absolutely glowing with gorgeousness, X
ReplyDeleteLovely picture. I've got a DVD of the mono Great Expectations somewhere. Need to dig out and re-watch.
ReplyDeleteEryl and Rashbre: after Estelle and
ReplyDeleteOphelia it was never quite the same IMO.
Simply glowing. Thank you.

ReplyDeleteCheers.
She was very beautiful. I understand her final movie is coming out next month.
ReplyDeleteI fell in love with her with "The Blue Lagoon" and "The Clouded Yellow".
ReplyDeleteJack
She was so very beautiful and a lovely actress, too...! I agree: RIP, dear Jean Simmons.
ReplyDeleteMaggie: it is one of my favourite photos of her.
ReplyDeleteRandall: I agree - there must be a bit of mystery.
Kanani: I didn't realise she was still making movies - I id see a late play on TV.
Naomi: I was sad to hear on one of the obit programmes that she had an alcohol problem.
Now there's someone I'd love to have photographed
ReplyDeleteKim: at what stage in her life?
ReplyDeleteA beautiful woman and a role model to so many others. There is definitely a reason that era of her life and she herself were so iconic and still are.
ReplyDeleteSt Jude: I remember thinking how lucky she was when she became Olivier's protege and it looked like she and Granger would be the new Larry and Viv.
ReplyDeleteJack: I had forgotten The Blue Lagoon.

ReplyDeleteProbably most of them, to be honest. It's a treat to photograph a beautiful young woman, of course, but as faces age they become more interesting.
ReplyDeleteOf course the biggest problem is few people with older faces like to have their photo showing the face older than 20 years ago...
Naomi: yes I seem to remember she lived in Paris with Richard Brooks at one time.
ReplyDeleteKim: I can empathise with that:)
In my view...for what it's worth...the most beautiful actress I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
ReplyDeleteI hope TV run some of her old movies. I'll be there!!!!
Another beautiful woman, another gifted actress, gone. The Golden Days of Hollywood have, with a few exceptions, turned to tin.
ReplyDeleteFour.D: hopefully there will be a run of her movies now.
